Lovelines(s)

(find me in this, and in you)

you tore it up and sprinkled it
carelessly, with a gentle hand
barely knowing you’d even held
this paper ball. My heart.

How can I blame you for loving them
with the brightest eyes and the smiles of youth?
How can it be your fault
that you’re amazing?

So I travel the sidelines wondering what it could be
to hold that space you hide so well.
Where you’re crying out beneath those eyes,
lost in your life, under all of these dreams

Between prom-night photos tacked to a wall
and a smile when your past walks into a bar -
throws you a word you after two years at college,
forgetting he’d cared till now.

Between feather-pillow girl-talk and movie posters,
And the jokes about last Friday night
There’s a bump in the road to remind you you’re home
Or that you never left your front door.

Between the careful lines of a cartoon drawing
The walks and talks when you were down
In the stars where you were, and where you looked to
For company, and a face smiling back

There’s a space left behind that you’d never dare tell
the silence in your living room
when you’ve no more friends to call.
When you door is fastened shut. You’ll let me in.

A friend who’d give comfort,
the world if he only could
The moon and stars if he could reach,
I promise you. I would.

Pete,

Just playing catch up on all the poems I've not read yet today....

Well, it does appear you have two fans, Nan and me.....

I agree with what Nan said.

Wonderful poetry, these are. Talented!

Enjoyed, Hugs, Pat
