I wonder where my poems go when their time is done,
Crafted in the calm of night; sometimes on the run,
Shaping, molding oft' perplexing,
Can't find a rhyme, now that is vexing,
Then in a flash, my poem's there,
Its words all fit, no more despair,
Perhaps a sonnet, or maybe not,
I know I pen of rose a lot,
Occasionally my odes are funny,
Sometimes dark, and sometimes sunny,
But every poem is unique,
Because it's mine, in each I seek,
To place a little bit of me,
Before the world so all can see,
But that's not true, not why I write,
To show myself, that's just not right,
Because I'm selfish, yes, it's true,
I write for me, and not for you,
Because that's where my poems go, when they cease to be,
They return to whence they came, inside of the soul of me.

yep, so true.
I so often find myself thinking of old lines of my poetry, in fact it seems I always do!
This is good

Always, Alyssa

If they're placed in halls of blue,
they spend time among the new...
then archives built to hold the gold,
and thus are placed where tales are told...

I do so treasure the archives deep,
when nocturne songs nay let sleep
to come my way, I find I play
in treasures troved in archives keep...

Tim, this is so true for all of us. Each poem
is as unique as each writer is. That's what makes
poetry so special. There are no two just alike.
Hugs,
Ethel

I enjoyed the honesty and humanity of this write. Often, we cease to think about why we write. It is important to understand what drives the inspiration...as we care for ourselves, we share with the world.

Poetry indeed, lives in the very heart of the poet.

You've expressed this quite nicely.
