As a great philosopher like Plato or Socrates,
His questions bring intellectuals to their knees.
-Will my spirit live on for countless centuries?-
-Will my name be whispered forever in a breeze?-

He wonders if some words of comfort he did provide
Will remain for eternity in the ocean’s foamy tide
To wash away the sorrow of one heart that’s cried.
He softly begs an answer, putting all vanity aside.

He asks these provocative questions in hopes today
He’d know his sins were worth the price he did pay.
That he’s made a contribution in his own unique way
And his goodness will live on forever and a day.

How idealistic and beautiful, Richard’s soul must be
For he asks such complex questions with simplicity.
However, I must thoughtfully respond in all humility
For the answers to his questions do not lie with me.

I believe that in patience his replies he must await
And know that no one of earth has privy to the date.
For not until he reaches heaven’s magnificent gate
Will he understand with certainty his spirit's fate.

I am glad for Richy's quest...
even better than a poetess such as yourself
hears the inner tremble...

What you say...
shall be as he
hears...

Brava!     Bravo!
To both of you!

Pat,

What a nice tribute to another poet's work here.  I did go read it and replied. Your ending here is right on, I think.

Regardless of what happens and if we are remembered or not, both of these poems do remind me that I get more ~peace of mind~  knowing I am doing my share, reaching out to touch someone else, or help in some way....as I said in his poem, even a smile can make much difference in someone life...let alone the other multiple things which we can do, at least, for me, knowing I did my best...will it make a difference...it helps in the letting go that question, and just in allowing God to do the judging....

Again, nice tribute and I liked your ending thoughts in this piece.

Hugs, Pat

For Patricia

How do you thank someone when
they  give you of themselves?
There is no gift worthy that
can be pulled from a shelf?

How do you say thanks when
someone gives of you their time?
How do you show gratitude
when their gift’s so sublime?

I wish I was smart enough
to have the answers to
Why someone you hardly know
can act in ways so true

Is it cause we’re lucky and we
benefit by chance?
Or does life have it’s own way
of fateful circumstance?

Well it doesn’t really matter
how such things work out
Gratitude for others is what
life is all about

I would simply like to thank my
newest friend Patricia
Endless days of pure content
is what I’ll always wishya

Patricia, I am so amazed at your talent and kindness!

I don’t know what to say, except that I am glad we were able to connect so quickly and easily through our writing...

It really is special...

Thanks for the great poem...
Your the best!!

You take Great Care My New Friend,

And I’ll see ya out here, all the time...

(so much so, you’ll get sick of it...lol)

Always,

Richy

Patricia,

I enjoyed your poem very much. Did you know you had a poem accepted for publication in the book? Check out the vote tabulation page and e-mail Ron you might still be able to get in.
