I knew you
years ago
when you were gentle
soft and smiled all the time.

Was that so many places,
people,
dreams ago?

Only the bones
holding your skin in place
still work to look the same;
the smile that was warmth,
the sparkle that were eyes,
the shimmer of your hair,
I only see through memories;
without their blessed numbing blindness
I would cry.

Welcome to Passions!  Looking forward to reading more from you.  Have any questions?  Just ask...we're a friendly, caring group around here...and if someone doesn't have the answer?  They'll show you someone who may!

That's a nice way to put it.
It's interesting,  all the ways we mark the time.

This is a sadly one and so well put.

Enjoyed your first post and look forward to reading more of your work.

So touching and can apply to so many through various chapters of their lives.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment and for your kindness.

Kahlil~"chilling"  yes - like seeing the living dead.

Nan~thank you for the ecard; a nice tradition.

Sunshine~I will remember to ask (though asking for directions is always a challenge!).

BluesSerenade~Thank you for reading and for your help!  Humans are the only of earth's species to mark linear time; in doing so we use all sort of measuring devices.

Justbleu~Yes, sad, but perhaps an unavoidable sadness.

Midnitesun~Yes, mostly, though there are some memories I would rather sleep without. How did you know my bones rattle?  *laugh*

Startime55~I think sometimes that sadness is more at home in poetry than in any other form of human expression.  I will try to work on something joyful.

Duncan~I am glad you enjoyed it; thank you for reading and for taking the time to comment.

nakdthoughts~Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it.

Bill Charles~I really do not know that my heart is warm.  Sometimes I would like to think so.  Thank you.

regards2you~Yes, memories are what we make of them.  *smile*

Enchantress~Thank you.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

icebox...I seem to be moving backwards...replying to first post, second.  You write with such depth of feeling and with skill, I know I am going to enjoy reading more of your poetry.  Welcome to Passions!

Martie~I did not mean to send you backwards. *smile* I find intimidating the skill level of many of the people who post here.  Thank you for your comment.

I can tell that you are going to be just a wonderful addition to this family of fine poets.  I also know you are going to love this site as it is like no other poetry site on the internet.  Welcome and that was one heck of a poem!

Mysteria ~ Thank you for your encouragement.  I have read more good poetry here in the past two weeks than I read in half a lifetime of education.  I almost did not post a "first" poem because it is such an intimidating amount of talent displayed here.

aries_luv_ppl ~ I am glad you liked it.  Thank you for reading.

Midnitesun ~ I appreciate your supportive comments.  Your poems more than once have left me gasping, grasping for words, feeling like I could not even make an intelligent sentence - just plain old simple awestruck.  Thank you for reading my poem and especially for sharing so much in your own poetry.
