Listening to every heart

Innocence, recalled…

She was a small one, my little charge,
Asked me straight, “wha’cha doing”,
My answer may have been
“Doodling, ka’noodling, spadoodalin’,”
Anything to make her smile…

“Let me write,” she said with glee,
Though she was but a tender three,
So a share of paper still in blank
Retrieved by her, with a thanks,
Anything to make her smile…

“Now, wha’cha doing?”
As I watched her circles round,
Straight lines in stretch to ground,
Told her, “Playing catch”
Anything to make her smile…

“Catching what?” in dimpled grin,
Oh, I could’ve claimed her kin,
So we counted dust motes in the air,
Told her, “there are fairies there…”
Anything to make her smile…

Then in clever mystery
She claimed, “write one for me,
Give me a little world,
Made just for a little girl…”
Anything to make her smile…

~*~

Tiny World

Jewels cling to their green trees
Shining modestly in the sunlight.
I bend down to the ground on my knees
Touch the wet jewels left from night.

Searching around on hands and knees
Searching through my own green trees
I see winged fairies in the air
Come from their shell, just over there.

Watching her assent, up, then down,
Floating on air, wandering around,
Colors as bright as the day’s new sun.
Oh! My!  How I wish, I were one…

Soon winged creatures will sing
Through the meadow their verses ring.
My slim trees so green, and tall,
Waving happily to creatures, all.

~*~

“There are no fairies over there,
Only sun shine shadows in my eyes,”
A bit of frown in her brown,
I shook my head, said, “Look around”
Anything to make her smile…

Then suddenly a butterfly tipped in gilt
Fluttered in the day gone sky of tilt,
For a girl and a littler one
As we watched the setting sun
Anything to make her smile…

“I’ll bet the fairies believe in butterflies,”
And oh!  The look now in her eyes…
For butterflies were real, it’s true!
If “they” could be, then, perhaps, fairies, too?
Anything to make her smile…

Karilea..I can't tell you why this almost made me cry..
Perhaps innocence lost..
perhaps it triggered a time gone by..
But, I can tell you how much I love this!
A for my library.

Thank you for gifting us with you beautiful words
   day after day...

What a sweet thing to do, and to write!

....and to read for a little sunshine on a cool and gloomy Saturday morning....

Yes, wonderful innocence recalled.....Made me smile I know that much.......Great images and reflections.
However, I just can't seem to catch up when you go deep like this...

“Doodling, ka’noodling, spadoodalin’,”

Oh smile~~~~ I'm so lost....Lost in the sweet innocence of this piece....

Great writing!

The stifling of innocence, the death of imagination. Some people see fairies in dust motes, others run for the surgical mask. Viva la difference.

i liked "sun shine shadows" and how you tried to complement the writing process with the poem....it makes the poem more precious and worthy somehow...

There is a moment when innocence is lost, but can still be seen and understood, as it recedes just beyond the reach of out stretched fingertips, the moment of knowing it true value.
Thank you for letting me glimpse this once again.

and the memories remain...

oh, they really do
               stay

for far too long
long after the shadows
move out of the land
that they spread themselves on

and like butterflies
they come by
and then fly away
in flutters of remind

and long after their flights
               their flights
      are recalled
in innocence

like that of a young girl
       who smiled
because she was dressed
               in happy
and a mother felt warm
in the heart knowing
               pride
       recalling
    joy
in anything that made her smile

great work, my friend

indeed!!!

regards,
sudhir

Whenever I shall need some fanciful fairy folk to brighten my day, I'll visit my personal library to read this bit of enchanting perfection...

Absolutely adore this fine piece of writing.

Thank goodness I came upon this. It would have been such a loss for me to have not have been able to read and reread it several times.

With tears of joy I must tell you that I just adored this. You bring such joy to my heart with this piece.
