Funny thing,
love is.
You give your heart
away-
thinking it to be
safe.
Held in gentle hands,
and preserved.
But it's really weakness
personified.
You're then forced,
to watch your heart,
and be careful how much
you trust.
Because the funny thing is-
your heart is never safe,
and you find yourself
wishing you've never loved,
because sometimes it hurts
far more than it ever did
alone.
How unusual.

And funny too, that when love comes around again, you're never quite ready, but you give it away again...and again...until sooner or later you do find someone who doesn't treat it like a soccer ball. Eventually. Once. If you're lucky. And more than once? It's too much luck to hope for, but even that can happen....

How unusual that the best poetry is not in any book.  You have transmitted the poem's meaning pefectly.
