This is a repost in response to Honeybee's challenge "A letter to your body"  I thought this kinda fit the challenge.

Looking At Me

Looking down to see the scars,
scars from battles, some won, some lost.
The jagged line across the wrist
a battle of the soul - won or lost?
I can't really be sure.
The quarter-sized scar in the thigh,
.45 caliber they said when they pulled it out.
"You're damn lucky soldier, it's only a flesh wound."
How little they knew that it wounded much more.
We won that battle, so they tell me.
Years later, the battle still rages
and I am constantly on the losing side.
Many scars on the hand and fingers
from little battles through time.
Fights with the wall, a window, a bottle.
Too many mini fights to waste time on remembrance.
The counselor tells me that these are winner's scars.
"You are here, alive, and well - you have won"
Looking at him, I laugh inside.
How little he knows about war - no one ever wins.
Some of us just survive, and lose for eternity.
The scars inside are the most vicious looking.
Jagged, raw, ugly scars on my heart, my mind.
Those are the battle wounds most apparent to me.
I know longer see the outside marks, unless I look.
But I forever feel the inside disfigurement.
How can I heal the scars of murder?
How can I heal the wounds of a liar?
How can the spirit ever soar with wings clipped
by my own refusal to forgive?
I sigh, and look at the scars of battle
Some won - to leave me physically alive
others lost - to leave me in eternal death

Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn.

Well done! When I saw that you had taken on this challenge, I knew it would be a good poem. I am not disappointed. Your reference to outer and inner scars is insightful - I never would have thought of it. Again, JP, well done.

JP:

damn - this one got to me good

far beyond the challenge
you dig deep within your soul
and let us all glimpse you for you
a challenge indeed and a brave one
at that

this is brilliant writing
and I am proud of you
xxoo

WOW!  I printed this one to keep JP and hope you don't mind.  I think if I were to talk to me it would be to the scars inside as well, as outside too, as you have done (only I could never do a poem this good), but I sure enjoy those of you who can.  Excellent writing, and you more than met her challenge.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh JP, this is very heartaching, sweet friend, I think we all need scars as badges to show that we are fortunate and strong and know we are the peacekeppers that can sympathize for all those who experience new scars each new day! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is wonderfully said, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet JP, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story
