Rita’s was busy
With an early evening dinner rush
And I couldn’t stand the noise
Of so many self contained egos
At one time, so I walked down to the park
Dedicated to some famous son of the south
That no one but the locals knew.

It was green space and I had time
So the bench and I got to know each other
Through means of tactile perceptions
Not always pleasant.

I let Lilly drift into my head
And pictured her again
Dark medium length hair that fell across her face
When she leaned over to whisper or touch
Framed a face that was not perfect in beauty
But held a smile and eyes to touch private places
In your heart one normally did not allowed people to see.
Her way of distracting and diverting talk
To meet whatever end she chose to pursue
And the joy she took
When I caught her doing just that.

We used to joke
The because she was shorter than me
By more than a few inches
That she’d watch the ground for us
If I’d keep an eye on the clouds.

Those clouds…

The ones that swept into her eyes that day
Dismissing the sun I had found
As she told me an old friend was back in town
And she needed to know,
To be sure those years ago
Were not wrong…

“Hey You!” I heard someone bark
causing me to  jump as if guilty of a crime
when all I was guilty of in fact was remembering
someone I’d almost let inside..

“Yeah?” I said into the form of a beat cop
frowning at me with some distaste.

“Park is closed.” He grunted, “Move along”

I just nodded and rose,
Pointing my nose back up the street
And followed the smell of Rita’s cooking
Back to Jean and that Kid…
Figuring I might as well amuse myself
And quit remembering what was now
No more.

The emotions expressed are real enough if not the story.

Deeply felt, Captain.

Sometimes, it's in the details...
Nice to see you were relaxing while that poor kid was doing all those dishes!!!

Great.. deeper writing...love the lines of the short and tall and clouds and her perception and how he felt...

Haven't looked, is there a third, yet?
