She glides gracefully, silently
through peaceful placid waters
cloaked in her finest
ebony and ivory cape.
Her ruby red eyes cannot disguise
she is searching for her soulmate.

Then hiding in anticipation,
she deftly guides her lover's heart
to where she waits patiently
behind windswept whispering reeds,
watching in sheer ecstasy
as he dances and trills,
flipping love notes in the air
in perfect harmony.
In a rhapsody of love so true
he captures her heart,
forevermore.

And when death doth this pair separate,
the surviving mate cries alone,
from all others does stay apart,
nevermore to seek another's heart.
For that is the way of the loon,
the truth revealed soulfully
within that mournful tune
heard in the mist of night.

The title caught me and I had to read this.  Being from Alaska the Loon has always been one of my favorite birds....And yes their song is beautiful.....
What a lovely tribute to such a beautiful bird!!!!

Chris, thanks!

Justbleu, Yes, loons are special. Having just moved from AK, I know you know the loon song.

Margherita, glad you enjoyed, and have seen what they look like.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Kacy, this is sad but beautiful, sweet friend, this reminded me of Celine Dion and "My Heart Will Go On" and how I truly believe even when a lover dies away and leaves one alone, the love is always the wind beneath the birds wings that keeps one afloat! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Yes Kacy you gave the loon a certain magic alright and beautifully written as well.  Now,if you could just come here and find this darn woodpecker on my tin chimney at 5:30 in the morning a mate, I would be forever in your debt.

LOL, Sharon, just stop feeding him so well. Are you sure you haven't spoiled him so he thinks YOU are his soulmate? Remember that fish?
