      Wild flower

I see her with burnished skin and hair
naming the hearts of what was dear
propped up by sunshine and children
the wild poppies of the Mojave around her
ringing their bright exuberance across the desert

His dark presence was more like a shadow
as he wore his quiet fortitude with Sunday hands
and listened to the way the wind told him secrets
something far away in his eyes

I was the path myself
always loving the turn and curve
flying towards and away from the soft call
of her breathing
the path was the adventure
after the tedious drive with window eyes
it made the sound of hoof beats
called the wild horses from behind rocks
and pushed me from the places where
to stop was to be caught in looking
with something far away in my eyes

I see now that it was joy

There's serendipity! Ratette and I went out to Lancaster today, a birthday treat because I love those poppy fields so much.

And.... the one thing we noticed the most was that all the little girls were completely out of control, trying to be everywhere at once in those fields of orange-orange-orange, running, giggling, trading excitement with each other, exactly the way you've shown it here!

The boys seemed to like the place, but the girls were simply wild with it. Once again your mental camera's better than the real thing.

(smiles) Yay! Oh Martie, I love wild horses and I dream I can ride one more often as they are beautiful and majestic in their speed and grace! (kiss on cheek) To see all the wild flowers around you and the tall alpine grass is a heavenly sight, yay, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This is a memory from my childhood...a yearly trip to see the poppy fields...and my dad loved driving anywhere, but my mother loved the flowers...and I just loved going, going going.  Thankyou for your replies, and Ed...I hope you took some pictures!?

Martie,

"It was joy."  And this is joyful.

I especially liked your reply. It makes it so much nicer in relating to the poem. A wonderful experience which you've captured so well. The details added of the horses, the ride...all add to the greatness of the poem.

Enjoyed, Hugs,  Pat

OH, this one made me homesick for So Cal. Not many poems or photos do that anymore. I love the poppies, the sea of orange that glows so brightly I believe the astronauts must be able to see them.

Yes -- took some pictures, including one with sprigs of lupine among the poppies, because I thought you'd like it....remember you saying it's one of your favorites.

Martie,

there is always a sense of peace within your words - making your poems flow peace into the hearts of others. A great gift.
