Today I visit this place I know
Where there is neither a high nor a low
A sullen state of status quo
I call it simply, the Plateau

Peaks bring elation beyond compare
Valleys, a low I cannot bear
But in between, nothing is there
Only a flat feeling of despair

Perhaps tomorrow or yet today
An unknown road will provide the way
To flee this place, to get away
The Plateau is a place I cannot stay.

Pat,

This is realistic. Always the roller coaster ride of up and downs as we make that effort in changing ourselves, becoming better than we were and everything we're meant to be.
The plateau as if nothing is happening, but it is...just takes time.  This does bring memories...if we could just hurry it along..

I like this.. Hugs you, hope you are okay...Pat

This is "somewhere" I can relate to and you described the "place" very well.

This slung me back several years into the conversations I had with my daughter when she could/would talk about her bipolar problems...she loved her excessive highs and was terrified of her lows but absolutely detested her "plateaus".  She called it her "dead zone".  So I can appreciate how well you've described this, Patricia.  Thank you so much for sharing.

excelently expressed , I can relate , those hovering in between times on an inbetween day, when we cannot seem to move either way

This is a slice of many people's reality. I suppose if one's life was one of extreme highs and of extreme lows, one would need a resting place, i.e. the plateau! It may be a boring place to be, but I am sure it must be better than experiencing the lows.
A real, raw write. Well done!

Warm hugs,
EA
