If It Weren't For Him
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
.
.
.
It must be hard
on him
When my days
are dark
When he can't
kiss away
The hurt that
has left it's
mark.
It must upset
him so
To see my
tears
Watch me
fall behind
Fighting off
my fears.
He can't make
a fist
And punch the
demons out.
Or bring the
brightness back
With an angry
shout.
I can see the
worry
On his gentle face.
I've seen tears
wiped hard and quick
To leave no
trace.
He has been
my rock
And my circus clown.
A patient warrior
Who hates to
see me
frown.
Yes, it is hard
on him
Though he'd
never say.
That's just not
his style
He locks his
thoughts away.
So, I will love
him more
In the light
or dim.
For I'd never
smile
If it weren't
for him.
Oh man....I love this. I know exactly how this feels. You've captured this so, so well. Very well done!!!!
Very poignant poem, Chris...I think I know the frustation he must feel at times...not being able to fix the wrongs and ease the pains...to make you smile...but he must have accomplished what his heart set out for him...because I can see you smile as I read this..
believe in what your heart feels...
Chris, I cried like a baby when I read this.
I have been 'him' and sadly I could not fix it either. I can just be here and try to be that rock. It's a terrible, terible thing and this is probably one of THE most important healing poems I have ever read. Keep trying to smile and if you ever need another understanding person in your life, I'm here.  Hugs for Healing, Marti
vandana - thankyou very much.
Michael - I'm glad that you enjoyed this and thankyou my friend.
Marti - yes, I have been "him" as well. Thankyou so much for being such a caring friend. I know how lucky I am to have him beside me through the good times as well as the "not so good" ones. hugs!
What a tribute to a loving husband!
It's not easy to see the ones we care for most
in despair or in situations where our touch,
and love, cannot reach them.
It takes a big, loving, caring man to understand
one's fragility...
and not take advantage of it,
or be so upset that he would walk away.
Thank your husband for me, Chris,
for giving you so much to be thankful for...
regards2you
Chris,
This is wonderful and so good to see a poetess express love. For, surely this is it. Enjoyed tremendously.
