Lost Reflections
By: Noah Eaton
4/23/03

I saw him passing at night walking down the street
Like jokers and clovers, he was silenced to sleep
Watched as his lost reflection cried through his aura
Shame in his eyes humming like a nonexistent antecedent aria

I was thinking if you were lonely
Maybe I could reach for your hand
Hope for you to recognize the light in your eyes
At least until I knew I never had the chance…

Because through the scars on your face
I saw a little boy crying out
Afraid he would never find his way home
And I only hoped that you could
Raise the paper bag from over your face
Why couldn’t anyone else tell
That you were only human
Feel the breaking of your heart….
……..I too feel numb now
And I don’t know how
To bring you all back together…

Just yesterday I walked past the bent guardrail
Where you suffered the head-on collision
Where your eyes felt temporarily broken
Where your nerves screamed like a harridan

You wanted to be seen as you always were
Couldn’t bear to see your friends call you names
Couldn’t bear to see your girlfriend scream and run away crying
Trying to draw her picture but your fingers never stopped trembling…

Because through the bruises on your face
I saw a flotsam of a shipwreck
A beautiful soul who didn’t know how to swim
And I only prayed
That someone would just dive and pull you in
Why couldn’t anyone else tell
That you were only human
Feel the breaking of your heart….
……..I feel uneasy now
And I don’t know how
To bring you all back together…

And through all the eyes I see
Everyone just wants to be cared for
But we keep pushing each other around
And deep inside
We are all the same
Trying to learn the heart matters most
Not what sticks out
But still many fail to understand
Damn, damn
And if I had just one demand
One demand
I would scream out loud…
…….Let us learn how
To see beyond these masks…

I think Lou Reed rung my door-bell just the other day
Made me think of what goes and what’s supposed to stay
In the belief of magic and loss
The summation always seems to add up anyway…

You were like Leda, you just needed someone to pity you
You just needed to see your lost reflection in Eurotas
Couldn’t stand to see the assiduous vision through medicine-cabinet eyes
Said your life was a nightmare, just wanted it to subside…
Just wanted it to subside…

Because through the scars on your face
I saw a little boy crying out
Afraid he would never find his way home
And I only hoped that you could
Raise the paper bag from over your face
Why couldn’t anyone else tell
That you were only human
Feel the breaking of your heart….

……..I too feel numb now
And I don’t know how
You’re gone now
And I can’t put you back together
No, can’t put you back together
No, can’t put you back together...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...but I still remember your face
I still remember your face
I still remember your face
I still remember your face.......
.......and its sadness I can't erase.......

And that's the most wonderful thing about creating. It will always be a mystery.

Oh Noah....You Dear!!!! You have such a heart of gold!!!!  This is filled with so much pain.  I know you are the kind of person that wants to be able to fix all the hurt and pain in the world.  I also believe that if you could that is exactly what you would do.
Take Care and HUGS,

Everyone have broken parts that all the glue in the world won't hold together.  So we learn to live within our means.  And yes the look in our eyes is often painful...on the other hand,  our perfection lies in the happiness we've known.

Let the love and light surround you Noah

You have to have a very caring heart to write a piece like this. This reminds me of someone I tried to reach for many years but was unable to and left this world suddenly last month in tragic circumstances dying unfortunately way to soon as a result of her lifestyle, leaving much sadness behind.

Noah, my friend, this poem shows what a tender caring heart that you have. Yes, we would fix all the heart in the world if we could, wouldn't we? All we can do is to help as much as we can and pray for God to do the rest.
Thank you for sharing this sweet, touching write with us, Noah.

Hugs,
Ethel

Noah, I see that you have finished this poem. As I said, I would be looking for it and am happy to see that you have posted it. I just feel like giving you the grandaddy of all hugs for this moving piece on the very tragic loss of this unfortunate young man.
Your heart is sooooooo huge, that when you send out love, it reaches around the entire globe.

Love,
Your friend,

Noah, lil bro, this has to be a song! It feels like a song to me, one that speaks of sorrow, and pain, and yet in it there is a plea for us to overcome our seeming ignorance of other's human feelings. Oh, yes, Noah, this is a very intense song, and one that reaches the heart....thank you for the thoughts to ponder!

Accept these small gifts from my gypsy heart  ~~S~~

Noah...You see with eyes far older than your young years and a heart full of compassion.
