I stood there at the storefront-
The poster new and white.
The bold-face print announcing:
"Come Rodeo Tonight".

I felt an inner longing...
And thought, "I ought to go!
I'm fifty, but I've got the try-
For one more rodeo!"

One more grasp at glory,
Once more tempting fate.
It is the same old story-
Too little, far too late.

The kid in this old body-
Says, "C'mon, Gramps, let's go-
You know you can still do it!
Just one more rodeo!"

I thought, "You know-
He might be right! What fun to blow and go...
Besides this just my be the night,
For one more rodeo."

But as I limped out to the truck,
I had to grimly laugh.
And thought, "You're just a broke up fool,
Still living in the past."

"Ride? Why you can barely walk-
That's why you quit, you know?
I guess I'll drive back to the ranch,
Forget the rodeo!"

You mean you won't even go
and watch the young bucks?
Cheer them on?
Feel their pain?
perhaps THAT's why I missed you!

Enjoyed this, GS...

you're never to old
to enjoy the show...
so back in that truck,
for rodeo...

Ahh, you might not be able to participate in the actual rodeo....but, my, what tales you have to tell. Good write. Chris
