There are methods to opening
A fine old port
That smooth, sweet, heady wine

Often the opening involves
A grasping struggle
The twist and pull
Of recalcitrant cork

And on rarer occasions
The neck is snapped clean
With the sure sharp strike
From the sword of a Cossack

Both ways are fine
After their fashion
And the latter, quite showy

But will leave the contents
Somewhat disturbed
Allowing bitter sediments
To spoil the palette

Still, there is another option

Where one rests the bottle
At a slight angle
Letting the flame of a candle
Play under the neck

Then, scribing a wet circle
On the deep emerald glass
With an ice-watered feather
Just below the corked top

Then, cracking the glass
With the lightest of touch

I am awaiting,
The feather

I would love to be the one to provide the feather, so you can provide the magic.

Wranx,

Smiling at Dixie's reply...

I really like your poetry. May whoever wields that feather become deliciously intoxiated with the fruit of you...

Hugs, Pat

I like the way you savor both the opening and the tasting of a good vintage.

I doubt I'll look at a bottle of wine the same again...   Remarkable write Ed.  I don't often say this but damn, I wish I'd written this.
Here's to finding the feather...

. . . cracking the glass with the lightest of touch . . . .

is what you do so well

This is beautiful -
I am in awe of your presence . . .

I loved this

wranx...just opening the bottle is so sweetly intoxicating, I doubt any wine would be needed.
