Mooded My Way

Clouds have mooded my way
hauntingly disfiguring the view from below.
I could pretend I am feeling the smiles
of memories or I can just let go
and drink in my fears.
I was that perfect child, the one
who never complained,
always obeyed and never strayed
far from home. I shadowed my friends,
never disagreeing, always accommodating,
never stretching beyond, never wanting to disappoint.

Now I live in regrets, a place
where fear walks beside me,
often pulling me back to a less
pressured time. My story is long and boring,
except to me. It was a fairytale existence,
satisfying, one of friendship and love,
magical and endearing.
I should have known it couldn't last,
that contentment was one-sided.

If I could have, I would have,
although now it is too late.
No rhymes today, my rhythm is off,
my head, the barometer of today's weather,
an internal pressure, once again preventing
my list of to do's, to be done.
One by one, my mind rearranges the order,
planning the attack, knowing that I can't rest
until my body and mind are coordinated.
I negotiate with myself, reaching an agreement
that there is always...tomorrow.

M

I was the imperfect child....of course, I only became that way after mom died. Very touching write M. I send hugs.

I'm sure your story isn't long and boring...   And you're right, there is always tomorrow!

Yes tomorrow. I know that I walk backwards far too much. I need to turn around to see where I'm going not from what is being fled. I hope you find your equilibrium.
