               Noon Good Friday
.
.
.
arrogance, n. arrogant quality or nature; offensive exhibition of assumed or real superiority; overbearing pride -Syn. haughtiness, insolence, disdain -Ant.humility

survival, n. 1. the act or fact of surviving, esp. under adverse or unusual circumstances.........,adj. 3. of or pertaining to the food, clothing, equipment, etc., necessary to or aiding a person's survival in adverse or unusual circumstances

.
.
.
you may have these old shoes now.
I don't need them here on my knees.
(note the hour)

you can use them to walk to the car
I gave away,
and that to drive to the storage shed
that holds 15 years of marriage.

you'll have to ask directions though
but not from me.

maybe that new computer is there too
but I doubt it.

maybe the crook lawyer who extorted
10 grand from a frightened father
can help you find it.

perhaps you can ask that jury
of my peers.....

maybe the miserable little probation
officer can make threats
to aid in the recovery,
he thought himself
good at that

some of the old neighbors may know
but you'll have to munch
on a bit of gossip first
(I suggest you chew well)

say hello to all those bookcases
for me
and the king bed that knew
a little love,
just a little

such trappings are, of course
offensive to me now
that I've traded
quality for nature

you may not however
have my pride

it, like my hometown
is steel

a substance made harder
by beating
and pressure

curious mix of soft
coal
and hard
iron

like nails

you have my permission to walk
awhile in such arrogance

think you'll make it a mile?

Clever, touching, personal poetic twist on "walk a mile in another mans shoes"

There is a fine line to walk between arrogance and pride" ..and sometimes if the arrogance makes you bulletproof, then it becomes survival. Theres times when life leaves us only our pride.

always a pleasure to read you Richard... and this begins in a place sometimes hard to find.... then takes places we'd sometimes like to forget.

Sometimes we can take those we love for granted and possibly push them away forever. Thanks for showing how painful such a loss could really be.

*hugs* to you Richard.

I hope things turn out well for you.

Richard, you are such a talented writer
that I can't tell if this is from your own
personal experiences or not. There's a lot I
got out of this poem (between the lines), but
I won't express those thoughts now. The hurt
and sadness in the poem really touched me, though,
so I may come back to see what your responses
are to the replies. I do that sometimes with
poems that really touch me.

I'll just say now, that I hope all is well with you, friend.
Heart hugs to you, Richard

Seymour...it means a good deal. Thanks

Janet Marie....Thank you for your
            understanding read. This is the
only time I sat at the computer
and wrote it directly on the
screen as opposed to my usual
grind over paper and pencil for
            hours, sometimes days

CPat........Yes some memory begs for amnesia

Sunkissed...Thanks for the well(s) wishes

Ethel.......It's usually safe to assume
            that these gloomier posts are
            those of experience and writing
            an exorcism. Thanks

Helen.......Whoa

Sven........A high compliment indeed. Thanks

so much feeling in this one, Richard

haaaa, half my problem was that I couldn't believe what this town knew and kept from me...it made me stay secluded in my home for almost a year. I was angry and bitter and tired of the lies. I actually prefer driving an hours distance to shop and be away from anyone I know. Keeps me from having to defend my position in life.

I hope this writing was a catharsis for you and that you have a wonderful Easter..

~smiles and thanks for your response to mine today.
