Love

There's a word I fear is all too often used.
And sadly, for the word is oft abused.
It holds the key to any human's heart,
And is redundant in poetic art.

I'd like a explanation, if you please-
How four small letters brings one to his knees,
By now you know just what I'm speaking of,
The word in mind is what we all call "love".

"I love you" comes so easy to the tongue-
And often said in haste when we are young.
Yet years cannot erase it from the page-
Perhaps it is more painful as we age.

I'd like to do an edit on my mind-
And search each cranny, try my best to find...
Each instance where that word has played a part,
And carefully delete "love' from my heart.

Aghast, you gaze in shock at what I've said-
You have romantic notions in your head...
Of all the heartaches that I've had, maybe more than most-
To each disaster love has played the host.

nicely expressed thoughts....
one should treasure the beautiful moments that are felt when one's in love...
so keep all the good memories......n forget the bad ones....

friendship is unnecessary...like philosophy...like art
it has no survival value...rather it is one of those things that gives value to survival...

Ahh yes, a wise ramblin' cowboy you are. Love can hurt so much at times.....and feel so wonderful too. Enjoyed this write as I do all of your offerings. Happy Easter! Chris

Oh, I do hear the ache in your words. I understand what you are saying about the WORD love, but not the concept of it. It is used rather casually at times, but I do not believe that that is a bad thing. The more love in this world the better. It is just that love can be experienced and shared on so many levels. The solution may be the creation of new words which relate to the different kinds of love.

I enjoyed your poem. It came across as authentic and full of heart-felt emotion.

Love, (the genuine caring sort of love for a fellow poet and for one who seems in pain and needs a bit of compassionate loving )

Yes, to what Linda said.
It sounds to me as if you are
very disillusioned with "words".
When someone only says "I love you",
just to be saying it and not feeling
what they're saying, disasters and
broken hearts occur. This is a very
bad thing (like you are speaking of).

On the other hand, when a couple truly
loves  each other beautiful
things happen. I have always believed
that a person's actions speak louder than
words....and when people really love  each other, there will
be a multitude of actions that prove this
love they profess to have.

I know this because I have been on both
sides of the picture.

Also, there are so many different kinds of
love besides the romantic kind.

I'm really sorry that you are hurting.
Heart Hugs to you, dear friend

I am so sorry.
But it seems you inspired me with a humble response.

I have to agree the word love is one which is used in haste
And is often a source of great distaste
When thrown about without a heart
It can tear you to shreds and rip you apart.
But take head, my friend, this may not always be
For next time you hear this word it might just be
The one who truly loves...it might be she!
