Like that rose
That struggled through the starlight.
Concrete cold,
Hard, pushing…
Unexpected.
Brought that smile to
A rough face
Weathered weak by tears.

Oh, but this just slightly different…
It grew from nowhere to a friendship.
Finding love beneath a hidden stone.
Wide eyes gentle,
Genuine.
Spoken soft, holding tight…
Unexpected,
Yet…
It’s right.

- And so it was that time stood still -
     (blink, breathe, stand, fight)

The most unexpected gifts
are always the best -
no matter what form they take...
a lovely read...

Liked this one much! ...struggled through the starlight...Nice

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.

Allysa, this is beautiful. And, by the way, the gift of love between my Love and I was unexpected, too.
And, this month is five years since we have revealed our love for each other....and we are just as in love as the first time we realized it.
Hugs,
Ethel

Alyssa,

So happy to see you back. Interesting poem. I like these two lines especially:

"Struggled through the starlight"

and this:

"Weathered weak by tears", says so much....

Enjoyed,

Hugs and love, Pat

Sunshine,
You're right Its strange though how it works like that. But so wonderful. Thank you for the reply.

Koko,
glad you liked it! I wasn't sure on that line struggled through the starlight, but I wanted to give the impression that it soaked the only possible source it had, even in the darkness. thank you.

Always, Alyssa

Ethel,
I think most true love really is unexpected ...this boy I met about a year ago, online, and it shocked us both I think. 11 months of us being together and I made it work for me to go meet him, he was more then I could have even expected, and he says the same of me. I always looked down a bit on 'online dating' but this is very real, and we're just ready to see what God wants, whether its 'our' future or not. *contented sigh* thank you.

M,
guess this was an 'unexpected surprise' then Kind of scarey isn't it, how our thoughts seem to never be our own. Thanks for replying.

Pat,
thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Its not quite my usual style. But thats because its happy, I've never really been much of a love poem kind of person, but I think I'm beginning to understand.....

Littlewing,
now now, perfectly? I'm not so sure. But it does sound awful nice to the ear. Thank you very much

Don't you just love it when "one of life's little surprises" turns out to be such a good one! May your joy continue!

Tara,
I'm glad you do thank you.

EA,
yes, it really is wonderful, because so often life's little surprises turn out to be rather large dissapointments. Thank you
