Deep within the darkest reaches,
It has begun.
Far across our familiar world,
A battle won.

The deepest depths of the sea,
The oceans so vast.
So many look to the future,
More still to the past.

How many look at today,
At what they can change?
Is it really all that hard?
Is that power so strange?

Have I truly found Heaven on Earth?
Why's it so dark?
Or is this the inferno of Hades?
Where to carve my mark...?

This darkness embraces me,
Fills me with power,
Makes every second of might
Seem like an hour.

It feels so empty and cold,
Yet strangely like home.
I've ventured too far to return,
So I must roam.

But what awaits me now?
What fate lies ahead?
Will I find a new life?
Will we all be dead?

I turn the corners slowly.
Wait! That sound!
That low rumbling noise.
It's under the ground!

The beast erupts as though
From within a volcano;
Fire and ash everywhere,
A living inferno!

Death has claimed another,
It's he and I.
One-on-one I face him,
And I refuse to die!

What is life without poetry and adventure?
"Little sister" is just another way of saying "Guardian Angel"!

I certainly hope this gets into the book!  You've crafted a wonderful and fantastic exploration of our human gift of free will.  I am puzzled by your fascinating use of darkness and heaven in your poem.  I'll be storing this to my library and reviewing it later on.

Hey, I actually really like this... is it about Chrono Trigger?  The whole discussion of time and a beast that erupts like a volcano kind of made me think of CT.  Even if that's not what you had in mind, it's still a very cool poem... you wrote this well, I'd like to see more work from you of this quality.

I like the action and adventure aspect of it. It is like he will battle to the end. I love it.

I've never played CT, so I couldn't have written about it deliberately. LOL. It's more to do with the inner struggles and other things faced in life.
