Hunting through the rubble,
Going through the trash,
Searching for the hope
Our nation sometimes lacks.
So many untold stories
Lie beofore us in what's left.
They did more than murder,
They left a nation bereft.

You can see it on the faces
Of those who gather near
Questions asking why
Are all we seem to hear.
And still our search continues
Through the day and night,
They asked for war and
America's prepared to fight.

Then there is a yell
From somewhere underneath,
But this is not of terror,
It is one of sheer relief.
And through the rubble
Of where a symbol did stand
Emerges one of pride
Across this mighty land.

We will fly it high forevermore
And march on through the day.
Those who are responsible
Will be forced to pay.
These colors stand for so much:
Freedom, justice, and equality
This symbol will endure this test
And fligh high for eternity.

Joyce,
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the read.

Earth Angel,
Indomitable is right . Thanks and blessings to you as well.

Flower,
You are right, the title was incorrect. Thanks for pointing it out and thanks for reading.

Sunshine,
What a silly mistake on the title . It should be all fixed now. I'm glad you enjoyed.

VERY beautiful poem...describes perfectly what happened 91101

Have you ever heard that "No shirt, No shoes" rule? My question is...Why doesn't that rule include pants?
