  something for sherri

  ------------------
  [6/12/02]

i found you misplaced inside my wallet the other day--underneath
  old concert tickets
  and undialed phone numbers ..

you were so pretty in 1999,
back when you loved your boyfriend
and polaroids of bestfriends had value,
  in red rocket summers
  when nothing seem to matter

and on those coldest of november nights
  you were so depressed
  confined in compartments
  inside broken apartments
scraped hours with sadistic emo songs ..
posing in front of brink disasters
and depended on cheap dreams to pass the time
because you said you weren't brave enough
for the world outside raindressed windows, where
  superheroes were unreachable
in a place where you were so alone--because nobody seemed to care ..

but i heard you were doing okay these days ..
  .. polishing rough edges
  across those conquered ledges
and along every better day, you drift away--into memories
  and i'm missing you
  in pictures where youre
  smiling in beautiful imperfections
  screaming photographic misconceptions

  of a past i misplaced in wallets--underneath
  old concert tickets,
  undialed phone numbers
and things i never meant to take for granted ..

  -------------------------------------------
"and i don't want the world to see me
because i don't think theyd understand
when everything's meant to be broken
i just want you to know who i am"

  [goo goo dolls]
  -------------------------------------------

When I took off my rose-tinted glasses, I was able to appreciate the sepia tones of this somewhat wistful and nostalgic write...

Chris, I really like this. It has a kind
of longing feeling about it for what
might have been.
A very good book submission. My vote.

(sigh) What I really love so much about your poetry is how you are able to captivate time and space so effectively, I think ever so much we take special memories for granted even when we don't mean to, that is when I feel this guilt I decide to always make a phone call to my friends like my hero Mr. Ernewein, my sophomore English teacher who encouraged me to start writing and my close friend Ms. Doyle, who got my musical passion going and I took her to the Shakira concert as a gift of appreciation! (sigh) This is fabulous, I most graciously offer you my vote, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Christian, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Christian, there will need to be a few
edits, but the gist of this is THERE...valid, and honest...

and true.

I agree with Sunshine, a few nips and tucks, and then this thing can go out into the Botox-disenhanced world.

This is a sentimental write, and a special one.

I to, lose things behind memories of yesterday...I do it on purpose, for some of those memories have sharp edges...

I really loved this.
