From the dust arose the ashes of the men that walk with death
On playing field of hell their fight had passed
Their mortal conflict ended, with their souls now searching rest
Alone just walking aimlessly, in war of ever last

Their fate had lead to nothing that would tame one human need
Their mission one of paper work and plan
Their downfall but just numbers that would fill the tallies add
In truth how many really gave a dame?

Pawns of war the victims that now lay to sleep in dust
Wars stepping-stones to years that lie ahead
Their Gods and countries trusting, till their hope came to an end
Now sharing place and time where man is dead

This world is not united, not at one to make its peace
And many more still falling we will grieve
This time has proven man and man; their fighting will not cease
Until the final calling we receive

Crosses, they will fill our sight of they that now are gone
But each proclaims the weakness bred in man
The dead are never free again to be where they belong
The devil, he possess when he can

So find your peace, you fallen
May God he search and find
The many souls now searching
And the lost souls who are blind

This deep, thoughtful and touching poem also provokes thought by using imagery that vividly, yet in subtle ways, highlights the agony and futility of war. Very topical and deserves inclusion in the book.

Rick you have taken the war and put it into words from not only your heart but I think all those that can not find the words.  Let's hope this is over soon, so you can write of something more cheerful, but it has my vote that is for sure.
