Whatever good was left in my mind
Is something you were able to find
You made me offer the chaos a voice
And lent me belief I have some choice
In whatever paths my feet might walk,
Whatever dreams my heart might stalk.
Whatever worthy there is in me
Is because of you - you helped me to be
More than a husk around my mistakes.
A heart keeps beating long after it breaks.
I may not ever learn to forgive
Being so stupid, but I’ve learned to live,
And you are my source for whatever hope
I use to hang onto the end of my rope.
Whatever time I’ve left for breath
I will need you - Your absence is death.

Ruthie girl, those last 2 lines are classic suthern poetry and the reason I always read some of me in your  heart hitting rhymes divine...a perfect and just poem to reflect your work in the book. If moth votes count for anything this one is already in

Very nice...that line just stuck with me. Definately a vote-worthy poem.

I almost hate to respond to your poems, Belle, because you then turn self-deprecating and it hurts to see you put yourself down.  However...

This poem is wonderful.  The message is consistent, well written, and rings so true.  Whenever you write, Suthern, you do it so well.

Suthern beloved one this is as always truly exquisite writing and I love it utterly. YES into the book with you, this is perfect.

Its funny, but when my mind drifts away
To the hollow shell he left that day
I don’t recall the pain that pierced me
I think of finding my soul suddenly
On that path of sorrow that I walked on
Suddenly there was a vista of hope’s sun
The gift that he unwittingly gave to me
A sister of soul, someone who is especially
So full of love and such hope’s delight
In you I found my way back from night

Its strange but in what he left behind
Was within more than I thought I’d find
A sister of soul who lifted me once more
And set my feet to walk on hope’s shore
The greyness that I thought covered me
Was wiped away by your smile lovingly
And though at the time I cried so much
You showed me the truth of love’s touch

Perhaps I should say thanks to him for you
For the gift that he didn’t know was true
Just two souls cut by the same cruel hand
But in sharing that fate we both understand
That it wasn’t our fault we weren’t to blame
His was the hand, which cursed love’s name
You gave me a voice you lifted my soul
And together we rise again new and whole

Thanks beloved one for all you are
You are a wonder, a treasure and a star

Marsha

I love this one darling heart, it is as smooth as silk which slips over my mind like a cloak of wonder. Truly you are excellent and I love it utterly

And would like to see it in the book.
