Daze End

Copyright 2003 by:  MARK V SHELDON

Eighteen wheels of reality
imprint their treads
across my naieve assumptions
and my diesel epiphany
flattens me with the weight:
my parents won't be around forever!
I project myself into my future
and sense the sixteen ton loss
across the miles
vividly remembering
conversations I made incidental
while preoccupied with things forgotten
rarely saying "I love you"
before goodbye...

I look at my dog
coiled in a ball of sleep
and can almost see his golden jowels
turn white before me
remembering all the times
he'd bring me his rope toy
to play tug-of-war
only to be told
to go lie down
and my eyes swell
when I imagine
his empty pillow
and the times
when everything else
was more important...

The ring around my finger
reminds me of how much
I am loved
and makes me shudder
at the thought of
living longer than my love
who teaches me daily
to never take for granted
what makes my life
worthwhile...

(big hugggsssssss) Yes, every thing has a time but a love will never end and always know to embrace each day with a smile as all your loved ones want is for you to be happy and remind you the love can never change! (sigh) This has my vote, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Mark, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

That is a fear I hate to face ever going before those I love.  This was a fantastic poem - really enjoyed it.

Mark,

This hit home. I often think of the passing of time this way. You have captured my feelings and my yearnings to stop the clock so that I may linger in the present before it becomes the past.

Great poem. No platitudes here just an honest appreciation of the writing.

Sincerely,
SG
