Listen

Listen to the night wind sigh.
Can you hear the great owl's cry
Drifting faintly from the hill,
Where the woods lie dark and still?

Listen to the midnight rain,
Splash against the windowpane.
Just like fragile fingers tapping.
Far away, the thunder's clapping.

Listen to the sounds of morn.
Eos blows her silver horn.
All her loyal subjects rise.
Praise her beauty to the skies.

Sweet sonatas, without words,
Pouring from the throats of birds.
Listening's such a source of pleasure.
Opening a tonal treasure!

Betty Lou~
Have I mentioned, recently, how much I LOVE
your poetry?...well, I DO!
This is absolutely gorgeous, and an excellent
choice for book submission.

I'm a sucker for a feminine rhyme.... we don't see nearly enough of 'em around here. That would earn my vote even if it weren't a rock-solid piece of writing!

Betty Lou - This poem is so well written.  It is easily as good as Wordsworth.  Terrific meter, and the consistency of your theme is perfect.  I love it.

I love the tone of this poem. No pun intended.  Your poem almost effortlessly takes your reader from a kind of dark and eerie tone (Midnight Hour) and transforms them by the end of your poem to a whole new and different tone of singing and rejoicing. (Morning Hours) I love how this poem leaves me feeling after reading it. It's Joyous!!!  God bless you my friend and I am so very glad to have had the opportunity to vote for your poem to be in the next book.
