A Thousand Words

A thousand words upon a page
Can never quite amaze
As a simple line of poetry,
A lovely silken phrase

A glittering field of fallen snow
Can never mystify
As a simple crystal snowflake
That stays etched within the eye

A universe of stars above
Cannot evoke delight
As a single candle glowing
In the blackness of the night

A book is like a treasure chest
That opens up the mind
A poem settles in the soul
And stays the rest of time

Elizabeth Santos

So true, so true Elizabeth! Beautifully penned!

As for that snowflake, I'd much rather have IT than the combined 30 inches!

(smiles) Oh Elizabeth, this is gorgeous, sweet friend, it is much more beautiful to cherish a star, a poem, a blessing one at a time instead of behold it all at once, then you can always ask for more and the many beauties bring many smiles! (kiss on cheek) This is breathtaking, sweet friend, I love it, this has my happy vote, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

How I love the way your mind works, Liz...snowflake/field of fallen snow...candle/star-filled sky...poem/thousands of words...that's beautiful - and you tie them all in to make an excellent poem....hail to the Queen!

What an appropriate choice this poem is.  A wonderful written tribute to poetry that would certainly make a great addition to any poetry book. Again, good choice.
