Pebbles in the Stream

When walking by the stream I see
Small pools where pebbles gleam at me.
Their pretty colors catch my eye.
I take a few and let them sry,
But then I find they look so plain,
I put them in the pool again,
Where they show up their very best,
Against the sandy bottom pressed.

Some people too, when out of place,
Start marching at a different pace.
Are not in step, do not perform,
Seem to behave outside the norm
And so I guess, we're meant to find
Our special niche, with our own kind.

It's like a puzzle in a way.
Each one a piece of some array,
Where we are there to fill a need,
By word or act, by thought or deed.
Like pebbles in a stream are we.
Such unity might be the key
To great success in all we do,
For you need me and I need you!

Thanks for being Trillium -- one of my all-time favorite flowers, because I have taken the time to look closely at it.......

And I'm glad I stopped to read this poem, which is even easier to like.

I think this poem is a great choice for submission into the book. It represents your character so very well. (Smiles) We are so much like those pebbles in your poem for we all look so much better in our own natural environment.... And, as you have written, I do think it is most natural for people to get along with each other.  You are a wonderful teacher my friend. You teach us such simple and valuable lessons through what obviously comes so very natural for you.... that is your natural ability to write great poetry. You've always got my vote. God bless.

The trillium is Ontario's floral emblem and Trillium is one of Pip's favorite flowers!
I love your work! This one is especially fragrant...

Warm hugs,
Linda

Very true. Our lives
touch pieces of the live
of others, like a puzzle.

Unfortunately, this poem was already posted as a book submission in the Corner Pub prior to its posting here. Obviously, we're not going to publish the same poem twice in the same book, so I'm closing the second submission.
