~*~

Grandma's antique dresser,
It had a magic mirror,
And I became a princess
When into it I'd peer.
When I went to Grandma's house,
The first place that I'd go,
Was up the winding staircase,
Far above the world below.
I went along the corridor,
Floorboards creaking all the way,
Heading for my secret room,
So near, yet far away.
The heavy door swung inwards,
As I pushed it far and wide,
I'd feel myself changing
As I ventured forth inside.
The mirror stood in the corner,
Atop a dresser of ebony,
Neglected, long forgotten,
By others, but not by me.
I'd twirl around and sing a song
As my dress turned into silk,
Drab brown hair became flaxen curls
And my skin as fair as milk.
As I gazed into the mirror
A castle came to view,
Turrets reaching upwards
Into a sky so blue.
'Twas in this magic kingdom
That my charming prince did rule,
Some day he'd take me out of
My world so cold and cruel.
Upon a golden stallion,
He'd charge forth and carry me,
Back to his land of sunshine
Where I'd finally be free.

Sunshine ~

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I have many fond memories of visiting my grandmother's grand, old house. The antique dresser really did have a magic mirror! Enchanting things happened when I'd twirl about, then gaze into its reflective depths...

Angel hugs,
EA

(BIG ANGEL HUGS) God Bless You, sweet friend, now I am flooding in tears after this precious write! (wipes tears) Being a young adult and my grandmother still alive with her gorgeous compassionate smile, I know this smile ever so much and sometimes I cry saying I dream ever so much to habe my princess in a dress like hers to dance with and she tells me "If a child learns with acceptance, he is destined to find love in the world!" and then she shows me her girasol where she says I have a handsome face and makes me blush like a bing cherry! (kiss on cheek) Oh my ngosh, I'm still tearing up here, I just have to vote for this because I want to show this to my grandma and grandpa as you always make me smile with your words, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Noah, your reply now has tears welling up in my eyes. I believe both you and your grandparents have been blessed with one another. That is a very special love and I am pleased that it is one that you continue to share. My memories are kept warm in my heart and soul--and whenever my grandmother visits from her heavenly home...

Angel hugs, Dear One,
Linda

Thank you for this, though, I'm close to tears.

I remember my grandmother having one of those little dressers, that she could sit at and put her make-up on. Sort of low in the middle with drawers on each side that were higher than the middle and an oval mirror.

My grandmother's dresser was low with french ivory pulls on the drawers. It had a huge tilt mirror on top that reflected the entire room. My sister now has the dresser in her home, but I like to visit it (and my sister!) from time to time. The little girl in me comes out to play whenever I gaze into the mirror.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply!

Thank you very much! Actually, I am still in touch with my inner child and love to play and see life through her eyes; however, she often has to battle for supremacy with my more jaded adult self who can get bogged down with responsibilities and the troubles of the world...Thank goodness, she usually wins!

The lovely pretend of children at play shows innocence in its purest form.  For me it was the arm of a rocking chair where I chased indians and bad guys with my Roy Rogers six shooters.  You've caught that spirit in a beautiful way.  Ken

This was an adorable poem.  Again second poem with a Knight and damsel in it tonight?  I'm expecting the round table next.... LOL

What a vivid telling of your pretend.  I remember my great-grandma's dresser and mirror.  She was given the dresser second hand from her mother as a wedding present.  and when she saw how much I loved it, she gave it to me while I was still rather young.

It's nice to see I wasn't the only one looking thru such magical glass.

Your loving grandmother, and your fond memories of her, have helped mold you into the wonderful grandmother that you have become for your beloved grandaughter, Tori!
Whenever you and Tori are together, she is making warm memories of her own that will make her into a loving grandmother one day!
It is an eternal cycle of loving...
Thank you for the sweet reply and blessings to you and Tori.

I'm so sorry I didn't read this sooner...I was just recalling my fascination with my grandma's "things"--I even remembered the smells of her house--smile--a strange combination of roux, mothballs, ointment, and powder....you brought that back to me.

I thank you much.

You evoked wonderful memories of playing at my grammie's old house. It was one of my favorite things to do when I was little. She had a hope chest filled with tutu's and ballerina slippers from her own childhood. I would dress up and dance around the upstairs for hours. Sometimes she would play the piano as an accompaniment for me.  There is something so special about little girls and their grandmother's.

This is one of your absolutely most brilliant poems and I curtsy graciously to you.
