If I Should Wake

If I should wake to find my loved one gone,
No longer lying gently by my side,
Would I have reason then to carry on?
Were it not better that I should have died?
If I should find him only in my dreams,
And days bring loneliness and misery,
Then I would long for night and its moonbeams
And sweet dreams would my only solace be.

A life without my love, no life at all,
But mere existence, thinking of the day
He left me only dreams and sweet recall
Of how it was before he went away.
I wake and reach to closely hold loved one,
Then count the many years since he's been gone.

Joyce

Oh Joyce I wish you had marked this one for consideration into "Reflections" if you do I would surely vote, as it captured I am sure how so many feel in dealing with loss.  I know it certianly hit a note for me.  If you do edit this to change it for the book please email me - thank you.

Joyce,

This is outstanding. So well written it reads very smoothly and the sentiment realistic and heartfelt.

Enjoyed and I too would have voted on it.  Pat

Glad you added the vote box...er, that is transferred this here. I just voted on it within this original reply.

It isn't often that I read something on here that actually makes me cry. I'll be touched, of course.. but this actually made me cry. It made me think of my aunt when my uncle died... they were together for almost 30 years, and now he's gone. This will be a wonderful addition to the book, and I'll be sure to show this to her when it is published. This is going in my library as well. I enjoyed this so very much, Joyce.

Reminds me of Romeo and Juliet.  Why live without your loved one?  Well, I disagree of course, I think you can live and move on without your loved one.  Try to live with the mindset that only good things have happened, and just because they are over, they aren't good things any less... love is a beautiful thing, however mortal it might be.

A consolation to so many who have also lost those whome they love. A very nice tribute to your Love and I think your poem here would make a nice addition to any book.  God Bless.

So bittersweet and lovely in its sincerity set to rhyme divine.
Well done poetess Joyce...so good to read you again.
