When will we ever learn?
It has been argued that as long as we are
in this condition
there will be no release from the cycle
of those who predicate peace
yet wave war-heads behind their backs
man's duplicity is inherent, many say.
Humanity can keep this duality to itself
yet I have to watch as new conflicts spawn
out of old ones
and see enemies that once fought become allies
only to unite and pitch their efforts
against others, against others
little do they see they sew the seeds
of resentment and anguish for lack of better ways
than destruction and decimation.
The world has not gone 'crazy'
it has always been this way
critics will chirp
there have always been conflicts
and man has escaped somehow, somewhere
but still we have not learned...
this cannot go on forever.

Poets throughout time have written of the auspices, and consequences of war.  Every anthology should carry with it some piece of "time of writing" and hopefully, will be read over and over, in more peaceful times...thank you Ecrivan...

sad sigh) But at this rate it just might and then before we know it we are all lying motionless in the water when the floodgates open and no one is living and God is just bowing His head in shame that He created this world for us all but the toothache was always there in the cavities of order! (big hugggsssssss) I pray this won't happen and someday the world together can come to an understanding, and in starting so I support your thoughts and wish for these to be in the next publication, you have my vote, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martin, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

History repeats itself, but why must it do it so soon? Yes, this tells the truth, the sad truth, and the voice in your words must be heard.  Excellent write!

Hello Andrew,

And yet my write is intended for the irony of events which pits the consequences of 'actions of self-defence' against a region known already to have parlayed repercussions all around the globe. I think the root lies in integrating minority groups better in every multicultural nation.

Lady in White,

And timely this is..intended for those who seek to get above the immediate use of force
and work within societies.like we would want to work within the family to avoid 'parental abuse' rather than having a policeman ringing your doorbell...to enforce rules

Hello Nan and Noah,

The rate of learning is so much slower than the rate of childbirth I'm afraid my dear Noah..and by that I mean by the time we in the 'west' have reconciled our differences with a regional population there are so many other millions of inhabitants who come into being and  have never been a part of any peacemaking initiative, and they learn the law of the street, hating the occupier or being suspicious of 'foreign' presence ....we cannot say that status quo for peace at any moment is good forever..it must be modified as populations expand, migrate and evolve...this is where much of the weakness in humanity lies and it perculates into our assumption that political lines permanately defines populational needs and expectations....so lets continue to transmit the need for a peaceful solution without the use of force.

Martin,
Yup, the end will come...eventually. A vote for the man with a very active social conscience.

We can only hope.  Well, that's not exactly true... we can more than just hope, we can become active.  The voice of art is a powerful one, and it's good of you to speak out like this.  Hopefully we will find a solution to our problems before we wipe out all life on this planet.

Sure it has always been this way.  But one thing that hasn't always been this way is the capability we have to destroy.  As that increases, war will be more and more devastating, until finally there's nobody to fight anymore...

It's really sad... I wish there were some way to change things, but I doubt it's going to happen.

As usual, your words provoke thought and by your replies, your readers were thinking!

Hi Nancy,

thanks for sharing and you did notice a more
'independent' choice of words from the PM...at least to throw in the idea of respecting multiculturalism

Hi Linda,

Sometimes I think it's good to provoke the reader...there is much on love issues here, why not a mention on what can hurt us more

Parasite,

I wish there were 'real' changes rather than allusions I fill my poems with...your opinion is appreciated and I too am sad of the consequences that face people we bring into the world.

Larry,

you gave an approoriate 'title' and the forums
can always be assured of some address or another regarding a current issue or something we've always been faced with but never wanted to discuss

Please believe me when I say it doesn't mean I was taking your words lightly... quite the contrary. *S* But even before I reached the end, I was humming "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" and wondering if it's even possible for us to learn enough to stop the repetition. Very good write!!

Hi Suthern,

Sorry your first line is unclear to me..I don't think about what other poets think,  whether this is good or bad as much as I think about us sailing into shark infested seas..and where do we find the lifeboats if the ship capsizes?Appreciate your sharing of ideas

Yes Bridgette,

yes humans can be quite something, can't they?
