Seasons Of The Heart – Sonnets Awakened by the early sun of Spring, And whispers in the wind of love anew; Enchanted by the melody it sings, A rosebud rises in the morning dew. Whilst snow and frost flee for a beacon bright, A Red Rose cuddles up in sun's embrace. Enlightened, yet without a trace of fright, Unfolding velvet leaves with loving grace. Bestowed with passion of his golden rays, She grows into a beauteous red Rose, Aloft on rainbows proudly she displays, True shades of red, composed by love's repose. Amid the composition of his art, She knows this is the Summer of her heart. But suddenly the Summer turns to Fall, And Winter tears asunder unity; The magic of the snow cannot enthral; Oh Rose, no bloom's intent infinity! Deprived of joie de vivre and its mystique, She can't endure its loss, nor its torment. While crystal teardrops seal her loss unique, The wrath of silence raves through firmament. Thus overcome by smart to death she yields; Her love - now still; faith perished; hope's decay, And petals flutter onto withered fields, Bereft of life upon a Winter's day. The Rose - her heart – withheld of love she weeps; Withdraws into eternal Winter sleep. Munda |

Hah... I think it's neat how polar our submissions are, both use the theme of a seasonal being coming into existence, living, and dying when the season is done. Wouldn't it be cool to both get in and have our pages next to each other?  Okay enough of that... I have to say, I really enjoyed reading this. The choice of theme is perfect, as is your description of the rose from birth, to life, to death. Love all the fancy personifications you used to get the reader good and attached, and I especially like where you decided to divide the two sonnets. They compliment one another very well, and I can appreciate the importance of each having its own complete space. I also like how the closing couplets of the two sonnets seem to correspond -- the sun gives warmth that allows the rose to enjoy the "summer of her heart," but once the sun is gone, the rose will grow no more, and it withdraws into winter sleep. I don't think this was meant entirely literally, either... so I'm going to congratulate you on a love-to-loss poem very well expressed. I'd love to see this in the pages of Reflections.  Parasite "Faith" means the will to avoid knowing what is true. |

I love sonnets, and I think this is a wonderful piece... it's sad how things that were so bright and beautiful in spring just fade away in the winter. A great addition this will be to our book!  (big hugggsssssss) Seasons can indeed hurt and be obfuscating sometimes, but know the spring is inevitable following winter and with that in mind the birds and sun will shine again! OK, I love Sonnets and I am so glad that you responded to my poem to give me some inspiration to look you up and then there and behold when I did... WOW!!! Not one, but two Sonnets. (Yay) ...and like roses these are both beautiful!!! I love how you procede through the rose's life, the seasons of the heart, and the four seasons. Very very nice Sonnets.
