Iambe rubbed her eyes
Half sleep hangover clouding
The reason she couldn’t see

It was dark

Fumbling
She found the light switch
And the lamp’s harsh glare made her wince
As she jostled the shade and exposed the bare bulb.

The clock said 2 AM
In bright red numerals

She shuffled to the shower
Turned it on and let it run
Then headed for the kitchen
And a pot of coffee.

The shower called with
A fog of steam oozing its way
Down the hall
So cup in hand she returned
To thoughts of being clean.

Stripped,
She stepped in and let the water stream
Running down her neck and back
She stuck her head under
And held her breath

Towel felt good
Wrapped around her thin form
And it’s warmth helped stop
The slight shiver of stepping out
Of the steamy womb of water
Into hard tiled silence.

“More Coffee” she heard herself say
and laughed, wondering when it was
she had started talking to herself.

Her robe hung on the door
And she threw it on  and with empty cup
Headed for the pot of caffeine her head was
Preaching at her was salvation.

The cup was full, when the knock came
Startling the stuff on the bottom
So that it stood up and ran over the edges

“Who’s there?” She asked.
“Travis” said a voice she hadn’t heard in months

………………………………………………………………………..

I’ve seen the painted desert sitting in the moon
Watched stars above in twinkle to coyote’s tune
I slept one night on needled pine
But more were spent between white lines
Herding this old truck of mine
On my way another place to find

Always you were on my mind
No peace from you did I find

excellent, I like that you write in series, too poetic to be prose and yet they read like a serial

I haven't been following the series but one doesn't have to in order to enjoy each poem. You put us right in the room. Imagery great. From "the steamy womb of water into hard tiled silence" to the description of the coffee spilling. Not to mention the story line, for that too, in complete enough to form a good idea of what's happening.

Enjoyed, Pat
