Agony

tears rest,
or do they wait,
just below my sternum
below the flesh
that covers my heart

they scratch
at each ventricle,
on the underside
of each rib,

is it agony,
or is it fear,
where is the peace
that I need?

there’s
the knowledge of peace,
not as the world gives,
but it is only
within my sense
of His word
His promise

my heart is not
feeling it
my core
is not touched by it

my head
tells me,
unequivocally,
that His promise is true

but my heart
cries for you
and me
it cries for the children
it cries for love
it cries out agony
for what oppression
and aggression
continually kindle,
rasp,
reign,
rain.

This was a very painful read! That must mean that your agony was superbly conveyed! You certainly have a talent for bringing your readers to you!

Warm hugs,
EA

The agony is felt in the powerful rhythm.
Very impressive.

Vas,

This is really special. We know, ~HE~ weeps, too. We are not alone in our agony.  And His promises will be fulfilled in His own time.

Heart hugs to you for this very real, touching poem. I liked how you presented the last three words.
