My car broke down
Leaving me yesterday
With thoughts of how
To get around
And pay for the fix.

I thought about talking
To Iambe
I’ve heard she did good work
And would make the pain
In my wallet easy to endure.

I grabbed a bottle of
Scary Smooth
And bummed a friends truck
Then headed down to talk to her.

She was there
Bent over some old Ford
Doing Lord knows what
To the guts of it

When I stopped she looked up
With eyes to melt a man
And to make a woman covet
Their easy hardness.

She and I chatted a bit
Me telling her all I knew
(that the car didn’t work)

When I pulled the bottle
Of Scary Smooth out
She grinned and asked me
If I’d like to go inside
Maybe have one with her
While she arranged to
Get someone to tow my car.

I agreed

Just before dawn I woke up

My mouth tasting like
Someone had used it for a landfill

Iambe wasn’t there
And in truth I wasn’t sure where I was
But my friends truck was still outside
So I grabbed my coat and headed out.

I saw her then
Sitting on the steps
The last of the Scary Smooth
Between her legs as she stared out
Towards the shop and the sky
Just beginning to lighten from
Midnights oily black

“Thank you.” I said

She turned and looked at me
Then asked me,
“You ever see him, ask him to come home.”

I nodded
Knowing who she was talking about
From the talk we’d had while the first bottle
Had been divided between us.

“I’ll let you know on the car”
Her closing words.

Iambe Ketchup?? Nan!! she's not just a piece of meat you know....

oh wait... catch up.... sorry... never mind...
(chuckling) Kristie was commenting on a thread over in the Alley... said her car broke down yesterday and she had found a bottle of Scary Smooth to be comforting... I couldn't resist... apologies to everyone for my warped sense of humor...

Iambe is a character I wrote about for several years...and in a way you did walk in on the middle ( end) of a conversation.. you can find more Iambe in the archives..but don't waste your time, it isn't worth the effort. just chuckle with me and shake your head at the crazy man. Ed... this is just the latest in the Iambe series..and just done on a whim this morning.
thanks for the comment.

Kristie... now you are welcome... just an odd sense of humor on my part. As for the wallet..they are always empty when the car breaks... it is an unwritten law of nature.
hang in there..

You would share with Iambe.... believe me.

First, love the warp of your inspiration.  Second, short story (or why I like this line...'Me telling her all I knew
(that the car didn’t work').  Few months ago, I took my car to a mechanic I've used for years and who knows that I know NOTHING about cars.  After a few questions from him spoken in some mysterious mechanic language, I finally said, 'Danny, it's a red car.'
And that pretty well summed up my knowledge.
Nice to see Iambe again...next chapter?

(chuckling) Duncan..I once told a mechanic, "If I knew what was wrong with it, I'd have fixed it."  I do know a little about cars.... and he looked at me with a half cocked head and finally grinned...after deciding not to get huffy at my smart mouthed answer. "You want to tell me what it's doing or just fix everything that is wrong with it?" was his reply..

Lambe sounds interesting.... :-)

I really don't care about no car, but if I miss one more day of school (after tomorrow) they are going to make me come back for another semester (which is way too much)

.....not to mention work, or the fact that I want to go home.....

etc
etc
etc

I need to get drunk

sounds like you need to stay sober..( laughing) and figure out how you are going to handle all that.. then once all the steps are taken to handle what you have to... you can open that bottle of scary smooth...

one step at a time girl. First figure out the priority order, list the issues ( issues not emotions) and decide what the risks are associated along with the costs...
cost benefit analyssis help set final priorities and to find resolutions to issues.

you can do it... but remember..it is up to you to do... no one to blame but you if you don't do it. Not that we don't still fail, but if we fail because we tried and just fell short of the goals..that's one thing. Faling because we didn't put the effort into it..totally another.

Just a bit flustered right now... but like always, I will find a way to "fix it".  Just have to figure out how not to geet kicked out of school for not getting there....and how to get to work and home, etc....

Just tired LOL

Being the person that I am, I didn't listen and did a search on the Capt.  Now mind you these people here keep giving me work to do, so I haven't read everything (I fully intend on doing so) but I have read some and so far I have to say this: You totally underestimate your talent.  What you write is amazing and very well worth the search.

Now if I could find some way to duck tape my supervisor to his chair I might be able to read on......

Susan.... thank you for the kind words. To fully understand Iambe you really don't need to read the poems in order, but it does sometimes help with the story line. Glad you enjoyed the ones you found. Some are better than others, some are more personal than others, and some are just written for fun... happy reading...and thank you again for the nice words... they are appreciated.
