I learned from a movie
That even the mentally challenged can fall in love
People that are normal
Never think that is right

But the can be normal just like us
Get their own homes
Get married
And raise children on their own

Some of us normal people
Look down on this
We think they are not capable
Of raising their own kids

So when the babies come
Some people take them away imeddiately after birth
But the parents fight for their kids
Because even though they are mentally challenged
They have the right
To care for their children

So when you see the mentally challenged
Out there on their own
I would say
I am proud of them
The deserve to lead normal lives
Just like the rest of us
So if you do see them
Say we are proud of you.

Cold hands means a warm heart

How true it is. They're not stupid, just a bit challenged.

What is life without poetry and adventure?
"Little sister" is just another way of saying "Guardian Angel"!

hello
i watched the same movie and i was very touched
it reminded me that my life is not at hard as it seems at times
they may not have wanted to be role models but they are
we can all learn from them
i will sleep well knowing of their victories
we need more true life stories like that
they are out there
untold

i watched the movie maybe two hours ago. i loved it. my son has autism, and i know he can do anything he wants, and if anyone ever tried to stand in his way, i would be right there fighting for his rights.

There nothing profoundly "normal" about love - the requisite love, that is, you write about here.  The inspiration to love the mentally challenged and that they have that same capacity, is divine.  What a thoughtful theme!

Julie, this is really a tender write.
Indeed, love does not set limits, in any direction, and knows no boundaries.
Kudos to you for writing about this movie, to honor their rights to express the greatest of human emotions.
