Stark insignificance
clasps with icy tendrils
choking expectancy
as a once lush oasis
withers
fading from view
- just a mirage after all.

What we think we're seeing
is indeed a stark contrast!

You describe the feeling that fades

perfectly!!!

oh wow, and it WAS really there, you created it as I read it, and then as I read it withered, it really did.
Enjoyed

Maree, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. I got the picture from Ron's greeting card collection. He's got some really good ones there.

Ethel, thanks so much!

Noah, thanks for your always sweet comments!

Maureen, good one! Thanks for the chuckles and thanks for reading & commenting!

Nancy, thanks so much for your lovely reply!

Vandana, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!

Martie, thank you! I'm always glad when you enjoy my attempts at free verse!

Scorpio, thanks! I guess this could apply to most anything in life. In my case, I think I was having a bad case of empty nest syndrome. The phrase seemed to capture how I was feeling.

Chris, thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Passing Shadows, thanks for reading and commenting! It's so hard sometimes facing the hard, cold reality.

Elizabeth, thanks for that reminder! Yes, it always does seem to survive somehow bringing a fresh perspective on things.
