Forgetting Susan

When the one he loved said goodbye,
he bought himself a sailboat
and named her “Lazy Susan.”
He polishes her up on weekends;
sails around the marina,
wishes he could set her adrift.

Looking inside for answers
reflects only shadows,
a question he pushes aside -
was he the problem?

He polishes off
a bottle of Merlot to forget;
shovels papers around
his work week;
gradually, it dawns -
he gave importance
to everything but love.

Now he climbs aboard
her polished skin
every Friday night,

his heart
capsized.

I typed half a page of comments here and deleted them... left for people better suited to speak volumes..I'll say I enjoyed the form and the tight construction and the subject
left me drifting in thought...

This seems to be a day
of me touching on certain poems
and being left
speechless...

But then, you do that to me quite often,
and very well.

Corrine, I also don't really know what to say. This one
made me have a lot of thoughts going around in my head.....
some of them were probably your intentions, some not.
I really enjoyed this one and will read it again and again.....

The term "Lazy Susan" has always made me roll my eyes in dispair....

Very nice write and so often true.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Corinne, it is so hard to forget, this reminded me of the saying "One drink to remember and another to forget!", I forget who first said that but I hear it all the time and you bring this haunting nostalgia back! (sigh) This is touching, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corinne, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Sad, and too often, so very true..well done!!
