Introduction:

1973: A friend gives birth to a baby boy in Perth, Western Australia. I write the following poem in celebration of the wondrous event. Within one month she, her partner and the boy chlld leave Perth to live in Canberra. We lose contact and in time they take refuge in the realms of my sub-conscious. My copy of the poem gradually disappears without trace.

1994: I am now living in Albany, Western Australia. One evening, a knock on the front door. I open it to find my friend from twenty years back. She is accompanied by a tall, strapping, handsome young man in his early twenties. In the course of our catch-up converation, she hands me a photcopy of the poem I had written in 1973.

By pure coincidence she had been visiting a local family and somehow my name and whereabouts was mentioned at some stage. She had greatly treasured the poem and carried it with her always.

Fate certainly works in many wonderful ways! I am now able to share the piece, warts and all, with YOU!

*Come! come into the world with us,
Sweet little blossom sprung from a seed of love;
Come join with us from now, be hurled with us
Around about the splendid sun above.

Come unafraid, share fully life with us;
drink in flowers, feast on the moon afar;
absorb the aura, share joy and strife with us;
Walk moonlit paths, enjoy the evening star.

Feel music in your great and growing soul,
Sing sad or glad dictated by the need;
Take on your new-found part, assume your role,
But let it be of love and not of greed.

Come swim with us in lakes of lusty life;
Come join with us in questings made sublime
By hope whene'er you meet with pain and strife;
Ride with us on glorious tracks of time.

Come share with us the tentative times ahead
Now you have ventured through fond Nature's gate
To our dear Earth and where you have been led
To meet and match the might of Chance and Fate.*

Oh, that Linda (Earth Angel) took the very words right out of my mouth....

I absolutely love this poem, too. It is precious. I am glad you took the time to tell us the history. Interesting! How wonderful to be able to meet with them again...
