Listening to every heart

Petticoats & Pinafores

there are some women here
daughters of mothers
mothers of daughters
women who have cried…
women of women
of women of women...
you think we keep score
but more and more

we know it's a man's game
but not a man's world

can't do with us,
won't do without us
stop the fuss
control the muss
quit the cuss
no controlling us…

because we know we don't
want to take over
we'd rather
roll in clover…some
of us…

but sometimes
you toss aside
the marital ride
the willful stride
to walk the wild side
cause chasms wide

I could be talking
only for one
but I'd rather not
be under your gun
of right and wrong
when in contemporary
we could together sing a song
that could bring us
to our knees
please
in such a harmony
we would be so beautiful
I guess sometimes
I am still in a moment
and then still
in petticoats
and pinafores
in my thinking
and in this thinking
…that there could be
a life for we
that man and woman
would could should
be harmony

we are deeper than you
in many ways

you are stronger than us
in some ways

but the pain we bear
is as real as yours….
sometimes, more so….

why do we outlive you?
why do you leave us so soon?
why do we promise you forever…
when you shoot for the moon…

sometimes, sometimes
in petticoat and pinafore dreams

I live in dreams of fine
I live in dreams of mine
in dreams of kind
dreams of mind
certainly
dreams of rhyme

I would rhyme with you
walk in step
keep the kept
in deep then sleep
aside of you
wild the ride of you
be the hide of you
clue clue clue

petticoats and pinafores
travesties and paramours
opened and then closed doors
what did you expect?

circumspect and then did I
seek a new life once did I
thought perspective was the clue
look at me…but what did you?

petticoats and pinafores….
wish I could wear them
more and more
wish I could be one
of them then,
but wishes and more
won't bring you back
through that door…

guess that's why
I wear slacks or jeans
and sorts of running pants
you've made me live
in a man's world
and feminine I'm not

but funny how I find
men still looking at my mind
even when I turn around
and they're looking at
my………………

but…
if you would let me love you
like no one else could love you
just if you would listen
take in all my kissing
you would not be
missing
me in dreamy, ivory creamy
petticoats and pinafores

The phrase that keeps me thinking is: "just if you would listen"....
That must be the biggest problem between the two sexes!  Communication...  Loved this, Sunshine!!!!

A truly happy person is one who
can enjoy the scenery on a detour!

I'm hearing a song...LOL.

But maybe some of us do want to take over, so we can dangle the gameboard in front of them teasingly with a 'come hither' look, then give it back to them with a fresh new feel, new playing pieces.

"...we know it's a man's game
but not a man's world"---I agree! In fact, I agree with everything you have so eloquently expressed!

I read this poem three time from top to bottom and then from bottom to top! This is most definitely a keeper for me. Thanks Karilea!

Extra warm hugs for this!

Karilea,
Always the optimist and more feminine than you confess.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Karilea--I wore pinafores as a girl, but they didn't keep my knees from turning green or hide the band aids.  Enjoyed this, the back and forth differences are perhaps something that draws us to eachother like yin and yang.  But can also cause problems.

The dream of a man, young or old, is that this is who he is getting.  But human nature on both sides of the gap does seem to get in the way.  This is a lovingly written scenario.  KJ

My first visit here and I so enjoyed this poem!  Equal measures "grin" and "bear it" while acknowledging its central truth.  Will definitely search for more of yours!

Haha, think RF meant grin and bare it?

I had to come back to this one again, it is superb!
