Another Rodeo

I asked her, "Do you think that you could love me?"
She smiled, and said, "I really think I could."
I said, "Then, Sugar, let's go down the road together."
She said, "If it were that simple, Babe, I would."

She said, "I read your brand the moment that I saw you-
You're cowboy and a drifter, I can see.
You'd never make a husband, or a father;
You have to live foot-loose and fancy-free."

She said, "I have two kids at home who love and need me.
You'd never understand domestic life.
And did you see the ring which I am wearing?
It's there to show I am another's wife."

I said, "I think I'd like to get to know you better.
Your mind might change, if you gave it a chance.
So, Baby, let's just spend the night together,
Why don't you let me take you to the dance?"

She said, "I think that I will pass on this one, cowboy-
I might wonder how it could have been, that's true.
And I'll admit that I might even miss you,
But, friend, that's all I'm ever going to do."

I tipped my hat, and headed for my pickup.
I glanced back, and saw her turn and go.
She'll head her station wagon for the suburbs,
I'm headed for another rodeo.
