The Reason

On a morning such as this
The halls are walls of hollowness
The room hears silence of his voice
His eyes are closed but not by choice

And Oh! The grief that God has placed
Upon a family he once graced
May I impose a question why
This loving spirit had to die?

What good is wrought from taking him
Away from home, devoted kin
Not yet accomplished in his task
Is this a question I may ask ?

God please deliver to my ear
A reason why some one so dear
Has left a mother's heart in strife
To last the rest of all her life

And then I heard God's voice explain
"To lose a child's the deepest pain
Though now it seems so great a cost
Please know this young man is not lost"

He said, "One morning such as this
His death has speared the heart's abyss
And filled with sorrow all the space
That once contained his special place"

"The joy of having loved him well
Some day will cause the heart to swell
Your joy will overshadow pain
Just as the sun dries up the rain"

"Your memories will overflow
The laughter in your eyes will glow
And you'll recall the happiness
One bitter morning such as this"

Let faith lead each one to his God
Let each foot o'er his sorrow plod
Someday the deepness of your eye
Will need not ask the reason why

You could have warned me my eyes would water and it would sting so much...
This is an excellent poem.
Really good.

Serenity was so good
to ask you to post something
you sent to her, personally,
that she might hold it close...

thank you, Lady Santos...

"The reason why."  One can never know, but, we can share, and we can weep.  This is the function of the heart.

Thank you.

Liz, this is beautiful, sad and uplifting.  Thanks for reposting it.

Thanks for easing an aching heart... It's almost been a year since one of my best friends was killed in a car accident and this helped so much.... is it all right with you if I print this poem for his sister who is still trying to deal?

The soul would have no rainbows, had the eyes no tears.

Rainbowdust, PLease do give your friend this poem if you think it will help. It's been 2 years since I lost my husband, and my brither and his wife, and today I feel so much better and think more of his life than his death. Every day we speak of how our lives were enriched and of my husbands spontaneous humor.. But it was a difficult road. It took time.
My prayers are with you Serenity and my heart goes out to each one in your family.
THank you all for responding to this poem which Serenity has chosen to share.
Liz
