We met online,
playing a game.

Hit it off right away,
now playing together every night.

Not really playing,
really talking.

Sharing our pasts,
dreaming our futures.

"Have to run to the store,
be back in 15 minutes."

The last thing I've heard (read) him say.

Was playing with his friend,
waiting for him to return.

The phone rang,
a drunk driver...
trying to outrun the police...
going 90 mph...

Him unsuspecting,
at a red light
hit square on his side
his brand new truck
his wonderful life.

I'm just an "online" friend,
many miles away.
How will I know?
What can I do?

And will anyone understand,
just how much he means to me?

But his friend who relayed all this,
being just like him,
knows that an online friend
is still a friend.

--A very dear online friend of mine was hit by a drunk driver tonight and is in surgery right now.  His friend has promised to call me and keep me updated.  Please pray for Jon.

Indeed - Prayers en route... "Real time" friends/family rarely understand how deeply we can care for an "online" friend.  I hope your friend comes through this OK...

I am so sorry to hear this venus.

I have often heard people say that the friendship's made online don't hold much substance as opposed to friendship's made in the "real world"  I never did get that, to me it's one and the same.  I hope your friend is on the mend, it's all the more heart wrenching when we can't be there physically.

Be well~

Oh Venus, I'm sorry I haven't seen this before now. I hope Jon is okay.
I didn't understand about "on-line" friendships until I came here to Passions In Poetry to Ron's "home". I have met some  very good friends on here. This is the first forum I have ever been on and came here to read long before i ever started posting and replying. There are so many stories about bad things happening from the internet that some people don't realize good things can happen, too...like this "family of friends" we have here at PIP.

Let us know how your friend is doing. Okay?

.
With heart-hugs from Ethel
