Little Man, I watch you as you smile and gallivant around,
Just a reflection of myself, as 'twas I, once in time.

How fascinated I am by this little man, both in spirit and remembrance.
How you must feel, I almost can recall, as some tiny bit of my mind wonders back to when I too, looked up to just about everyone.

Your thirty-four pounds of boldness and bravery, standing tall in a world so large, ready to meet the challenge of life that each day brings, and lest I forget , what it's like to be four years and five days old.

I watch in amazement, astonished
how your individuality has surfaced with a mind of your own.
I hope someday that you too will be able to share in the joy that I am feeling this day.
Children are born everyday, and without much fanfare, sometimes passing through this life almost in a whisper.

But not like you, Little Man. The first words I said when I saw you some four years ago were, "Welcome to the world, Hank James Hicks. You are something special."

This possibly was the understatement of all time.

But go slow, Little Man. Enjoy your childhood, for it comes but once.
And let the disappointments pass, let the laughter fill your glass,
let your illusions last, until they shatter.
Whatever you might hope to find, and among the thoughts that cloud your mind,
there won't be many that ever really matter.

And when you've found another soul, who sees into your own, take good care of each other.

Ahh yes...... My Little Man. God sure shined the light on me when he sent you ...

Dennis, I have two grandsons, and two grandgirls....

THIS...I have thought over so many times, they are uncountable.  AND...I am expecting one more this year.

YOU are not thinking more than I am sure our grandparents grandparents once thought....

we have this hope!  Where does it go?

That is one answer
I have not yet found.

When YOU find it,
let us know?

I'm going to keep looking.

Thank you all. This was the first piece I ever wrote, and to this day, remains my favorite. The boy is now 14 years old, and never ceases to amaze me. I thank God each and every day for blessing me so.
