If I force you
          to bleed,
what will have
     been gained,

     your soul survival
or,
     your brain?

I know how
     you hang on,

can't brave the unknown
     when sheets are pulled,

you lie naked
     in blame,
          can't face the shame.

I am not God, I let you go,

     A tourniquet of love,
I'll try to be.

But, you make it so hard

     when you harm me!

Just remember,

all tourniquets need
    to be loosened after awhile,

and,

let the blood letting begin.

You'll need stitches

of honesty
which you don't seem to have.

I feel sorry for you,

for,

     to hug you back up
with the tightness
     of my love,

will only further this
    festering of your soul.

God grant me patience,
    until you willingly let go.

.

I love you, you know.

sounds like he needs his enabler still, unable to let go, tho youve clearly moved ahead...walking a fine line with him, must be tough at times, seems to be a needy one
your stength shows thru your poetry, i salute you, you must have lived thru some tought times with this one

Karilea, thanks for the reply.

Michele,

Actually, this is not about a husband, boyfriend or lover. It can be about anyone who you love, who continually hurts you. You can overlook it sometimes, it a mistake, but when the pattern developes it is so hard not to react....usually my love isn't based on a mutual love, however, respect is so important in relationships....

It is difficult when I can see the problem, and just be who I am, and let them go....but, I must...for I value myself as much as others....

Plus, I have been accused of ~planting seeds with a bulldozer~ in private life, so I try to be more careful, least I do more damage than good. Guess I'll wait for a 'Reign...of God' to soften the ground a bit....smiling...

Hugs, Pat

words of wisdom wrapped up poetically in clever word play and use of metaphor.
Like the way you worked your theme all the way thru. Well done poetess...
Had to smile at your planting seeds/bulldozer reply

"I have been accused of ~planting seeds

Pat, this made me smile.  I've never had
that particular line applied to me, but
words to that effect.

It just brought me a little closer to you.

Beware of those who squeeze so tight ...sometimes you forget to breath on your own.

Regards to you.
A great read.

It's amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity, & incumbency.

Pat, sometimes the ultimate love for someone is "tough love"...which sometimes means letting them "go", so they can grow. Yes, I know, too...

Thanks for all the replies...
I appreciate all of your comments.

Salty, then it wouldn't be a life-saving tourniquet it would be a noose around someone's neck. They/you couldn't breath if they/you wanted.

In this case 'tightly' means fully, unconditionally, yet to me unconditional does not mean condoning.

Again, thanks to ALL of you.
means a lot. Hugs, Pat

Loved it.

Beneath, there is more beneath, but, what is there in the end?  More beneath?  Or something more?

(tears fall down my cheeks) I sure could use a tourniquette to sustain the massive blood loss my aorta exploded with in my broken-heartedness! (sad sigh) I can relate well to this yearning, sweet friend, my heart goes out to you, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Patricia, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
