(This is the poem I believe has fueled my passion to write in life and based on an event that deeply touched my heart and changed me forever!

Cameron Strickland was the only friend I ever had during my high school years besides my hero Mr. Ernewein who inspired me to take up the quill, and he started out as a person who refused to do his homework and was disruptive to others! Then, after the first half of the scvhool year, he came back with a renewed strength and smile unlike everyone I have ever known! He did his homework, was helpful to everyone, he even helped others who were sad and compassionately reached out to them! Just the thought of this love in his heart and resilience has always moved me and stil does.

Then, tragically, on New Years Eve after he finished the school year with me, he died in a head-on collision on Lookout Mountain. His friend was with him and survived but recalls the terrible tragedy and after hearing the news late one night, I cried for days and knew I had uncovered the purpose of writing, to spread love and compassion to others and heal the downtrodden. So I wrote this song for his friend and for his family and always read this aloud and still always cry when I read it!

My school was so deeply touched by his love and courage that they have dedicated a special award in honor of him every year for a student who made the biggest improvement and showed a positive spirit even through difficult times! This song is framed and hangs with his plaque in memory of him at my school!

This is I truly believe the song which got me to start writing all the way up to now and always will continue to write, re-posted for you to behold!

Good Morning Cameron

11/2/01

I don't think that I can take it anymore
Help me stay alive, I've broken into pieces
You died before my eyes, yet I didn't follow you
Put my pride back together before it decays
It was a bad quarter of an hour, the night had came quickly
I'm just waiting to catch a falling star
But behind the dark sunglasses that blind my foresight
I fail to catch the scarf the angel left behind...

Good morning, Cameron
How have things been going lately?
Good morning, Cameron
Can you see me?
Good morning, Cameron
I don't know what was the bigger waste of time
Mourning of your loss or wishing it was me

Since you've been gone, the carousel has abstained
And I try to fix the motor, but it just won't spin back
And Rene Magritte still has a green forest behind a glistening blue lake
But the sky hanging above has turned black
Every single time I spin on the ol' tire swing
There's a silhouette of you hanging on the monkey bars
I have no picture of you I can hang on to
So I compromise with this caricature I etch on my wall...

Good morning, Cameron
Does the sun shine bright up there?
Good morning, Cameron
Good luck, and take care
Good morning, Cameron
I only wish you could live to see all your dreams come true
I don't know what was the bigger waste of time
Mourning of your loss or wishing it was me

Dear God, tell me
What he's thinking
When will I find
Reassurance
That this day will
Bring him promise
Down on my knees
I'm listening
So take this shawl
And tell his mother
That she loves him
Tuck her in tonight
With his crystal
Breath of courage
That when she wakes up
She'll cry knowing his love lives on in her
His love lives in her...

I still believe in strawberry fields forever
I've got to now that I'm on my own
Tell me, do you have someone who keeps you company
When your spirit sojourns back home?
We can't all be cowboys
But we can all be sanctified
When I look into the Pleiades
I think I've seen your tears tonight...

Good morning Cameron, can you hear me...
Good morning Cameron, can you hear me...

Good morning, Cameron
Here's to those days and nights
Good morning, Cameron
Here's to those tears you've cried
Good morning, Cameron
Will I ever find my dreams
I don't know what was the bigger waste of time
Mourning of your loss or wishing it was me
Wishing it was me...
Wishing it was me...

I had a friend die when I was 25 and she was 17.  I was the oldest person helping to take care of her.  After she died, we'd go to the cemetary and just talk to her, like she was sitting there, listening.  This reminded me of that time.

Hi Mistletoe Angel,

Very touching friend, it is a sad piece, but you have kept his memory alive in you, and I think he would be very proud of your writing, thank you for sharing this tender moment in your life.

Love, Cerenity

Noah, you must have posted this on one of the days that I wasn't on my computer very much. Sorry I've been so late replying to it. It is good that you are keeping your friend's memory alive.
Thank you for sharing it with us.....

That's beautiful. It makes me miss him, even though I never knew him. I actually just wrote a second poem for someone I lost a while ago. You'll probably see it up here tomorrow or something. I don't want to crowd the board.
But, like I said, I'm moved. You've really honored him. And I love that line, "Good morning, Cameron." There's just something so intensely sad about it.

"I don't need to scream for you to deem me aggravation."
