Why do people cage their loved ones
Are they afraid they will break loose?
Feeling of power is making them do it
But using one's power is never an excuse

Are those loved ones not as equal
In their spirit, mind and soul?
How can the person they say they love
Ever be complete and whole

I see it happening much too often
They bend themselves to someone's will
Just to keep the peace they tell me
Don't they know in the end it will kill?

In the end it will kill their own spirit
Because they're forgetting who they were
In trying so hard to please the other
Their soul will vanish in a misty blur

Can one find pleasure in helding power
Over the one they say they love
I never saw real happy endings, merely
Big problems and hearts hurting thereof

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

Your words speak of a sad truth that is all too common.  Very well said and put.

Beneath, there is more beneath, but, what is there in the end?  More beneath?  Or something more?

BRAVO Titia.

Hmmm...this seems to be a very hard concept for some people to comprehend.
I have stressed it here and to my own children.

The more you try to cage a person, the harder they fight to get out.
Wonderful insight dear lady.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Titia, this is so very sad but true, sweet friend, I too am saddened by how we must do this and if only there was a better option we could do to keep our loved ones feeling free and learn their lessons with fair discipline! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Titia, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Titia, this is a really good poem....as well as a very good point you have made.

I'm glad that I went to some of the past pages that I've missed since I haven't been feeling very well. I may have not seen this, if I hadn't.

I think more people should read this, so....

There is so much truth to what you write here, Titia. I did this for a long time. Always trying to please my mate. And, I think I lost myself in doing so. Now, I don't know who I am.

These are wise words, Titia... The odd thing is - those who attempt to cage another are destined to find them on the run before too long... Great poem, m'friend...

Thanks to all of you for your answers.
I saw it happen to my daughter many years ago and it took her 7 years to break loose.
I saw her change into a silent little scared mouse in this relationship and I saw her finding her sparkling self again in the relationship she has now.

I see it happen to some dear friends and it's hard to stand by and watch them change.
And not always they are aware of it, but whenever there's a moment one feels unhappy in giving in all the time, they should realize that it's wrong, but fear of loneliness sometimes stands in their way.
