Autonomy
By: Noah Eaton
1/22/02

So you lifted me up
But you never set me back down
You wrinkled me like an accordion
Convinced me Charlemagne was not invincible
You ate all the Lucky Charms
But left my name behind in the cereal bowl
Which I can’t even speak fluently anymore…

And I’m so misunderstanding
Thought I had it all to keep the great wall up
Am I too demanding?
Even when I restrain myself of these economics
I’m still standing
But you’ve pulled down the iron curtain on me
You found the defect in my autonomy…
In my autonomy…
In my autonomy…

I could cry out the salt to fill the Dead Sea
But you took it all and left the paprika
I found out there is no such thing as U.S 66
But I still pretend it was there all along, can’t accept the propaganda
It’s just another one of Ganymede’s elegies
But I’m hosting a poltergeists party
And I can’t even bear to shake hands…

And I’m so misunderstanding
Thought I had it all to keep the great wall up
Am I too demanding?
Even when I restrain myself of these economics
I’m still standing
But you’ve pulled down the iron curtain on me
You found the defect in my autonomy…
In my autonomy…
In my autonomy…

And I walked right beside you
And I walked right beside you
And I was there right beside you
But you never turned your head
And you said I was unable
To accept the facts
When I was just wishing you peace
Trying to keep Octavian’s word

So this is how it feels to lose
This is how Alexander the Great felt when he fell
Just dying to go so far to touch the stars
But I am too selfish to claim a star as my own
I thought I bore an Aegis shield
But this scar drops that theory
So I’ll just resign myself…

And I’m so misunderstanding
Thought I had it all to keep the great wall up
Am I too demanding?
Even when I restrain myself of these economics
I’m still standing
But you’ve pulled down the iron curtain on me
You found the defect in my autonomy…

And I’m incapable
Of governing each of these bureaus
And my thinking of you is inevitable
What went wrong, how can I fulfill your soul?
Every brooms bristles
Will wear out and erode in time, just like my autonomy….
My autonomy…
My autonomy…
My autonomy…
My autonomy…
