I am hunting for ghosts

In these woods

I have realized

Why do you spend so much time out there

She had asked

You never kill anything

Killing is not the purpose of hunting

I had answered

But I knew what she meant

And so I turned it over

In my mind

For long hours I

Thought about it

As I walked the hills and creekbeds

When I was a child I came here with my father

(His hands were enormous He always wore workboots)

As he hunted and fished

But he died

So I came here with friends

To hunt and fish

And drink and smoke

And I came here with girls

To do other things

I remember marrying one of them

And then I woke one morning and looked around

And she was gone

So I looked for my friends

But their paths had carried them away

From me

So I waited

And tried to make new friends

And tried to marry again

But something had happened

I had forgotten how to be a friend

Or a husband

So I put people in those places

Where friends and lovers should be

For appearance sake

And now I go to the woods

Under an old log

In a forgotten hollow

There must be a note

From my father

Which explains it all

Or maybe my old friends will be standing there

Waiting

Where ya been old buddy

They'll say

We've been looking for you all these years

Or maybe she'll be there

I was lost she'll say

I knew you'd find me

Thanks all, you're too kind.

It's my first try; I wrote it this morning after reading about Gregory Corso while doing some research on Beat writers.

This is a very sad poem...
Im sorry man, im so sorry this happened to you
I can only send my blessings, and my friendship..
You will always have friends here.
This poem is going to go into my private library.
Thank you so much for sharing.

I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait.

Welcome to Passions, Thisman.

The part I enjoyed the most was what Sunshine pointed out. Overall, I love the honesty and thoughtfulness in this poem. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

I think it's human nature to go back again and look for a reason that might explain our mistakes.
I hope you find her waiting there.

~warm greetings, and welcome to you~
