“Change of Life, Change of Season"

From break of day till a sunset: serene
Up from the blood the harvest moon
There across fields of orange sauce a
tranquil sun rests beyond horizons:  unseen.

Autumn Walks crunch under summer anarchy
Nature’s palm strokes her brethren’s cheek.
‘Twas that blustery day when birds do hide
That spoken wind called in coquettish whisper

Oh, Change of Life, change of season:
Brings me to knees, to teach us of reason
Putting thanks of smiles on a sad face
Building memories that time can’t erase.

Mockery again in silence of the woods
The Eye of Power closes its weary hood
To rest once more after winter’s absence
As it spends a yearly bestowal of gifts.

Oh, Change of Life, change of season:
Leave me tranquil without dizzying reason
I talk myself into caring out of shame
Unhoused, sitting alone with mystery: tamed.

(big hugggsssssssss) Oh Jeff, I too know this feeling, and right now I am living in a dead winter, but still believe maybe the spring (my favorite season) can color the bleached stains in my heart, I can stride the daffodil fields again like a colossus and taste the honeyed clover of a May day! (sigh) This is very beautiful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jeff, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Wow...um...yeah...wow! I saw a man at a mid-life crisis debate...looking back, reflecting, trying to find enough pieces to plan a future ahead, knowing that the rest of the journey is not as long as the steps it took to reach the mid point. Still unsure, yet not as apprehensive maybe?

this was as starkly profound as all your lyrics are, and always leave me pondering...

Beautiful flow and contrast...loved the image of 'orange sauce' and 'summer anarchy'. I could almost see the slow flow of that sunset, and hear the loud crunch of summer dying beneath Autumn's harsh rushing tones.

Well done!

Dulcy asked me to break this down a bit so others might understand what i was saying:

From break of day till a sunset: serene
Up from the blood the harvest moon
There across fields of orange sauce a
tranquil sun rests beyond horizons: unseen.
(from cradle to a final peace, there is much to be accomplished: in the daytime-work, and at night: our home life)

Autumn Walks crunch under summer anarchy
Nature’s palm strokes her brethren’s cheek.
‘Twas that blustery day when birds do hide
That spoken wind called in coquettish whisper
(comparing a coming of older age to Fall giving way to Winter)

Oh, Change of Life, change of season:
Brings me to knees, to teach us of reason
Putting thanks of smiles on a sad face
Building memories that time can’t erase.
(Since I am older, i should be wiser; don't let me forget the lessons that can make a soul a better person)

Mockery again in silence of the woods
The Eye of Power closes its weary hood
To rest once more after winter’s absence
As it spends a yearly bestowal of gifts.
(There is time to reflect in winter, a peaceful silence; a gift of time to rest)

Oh, Change of Life, change of season:
Leave me tranquil without dizzying reason
I talk myself into caring out of shame
Unhoused, sitting alone with mystery: tamed.
(the summation:  we should feel a bit of humility/shame, but don't let it 'become' us; cast the mistakes of life out- do not give them a home.)
Hope this helps....jkf

Hello Jeff

Your words were so beautiful and very serene.  I love the change of seasons, especially from Summer to Autumn.  We are experiencing an extremely hot summer in Melbourne and we have many bushfires burning out of control, one that has just been reported about 30 kms from us.  Over the weekend the bushfires in Canberra took over 400 homes and 4 lives.  We pray for rain!

Take care......Sue

Sue, when i read that news about Aussie-ville, i immediately thought of you and two other friends there, hoping harm's way stays away from all of you.  I think you got the gist of the poem as a placating device to not get too shook up by events.  If you get a chance drop me a line, will you, and tell me about the fires there?  California was a mess in the same way this past year.  Thankx Sue!  YOU be well, friend....keep some water handy, ok?

Hi Bill!  Thanks for the tea break with me on the poem.  It's so hard to write of the seasonal change without being trite, but as Dulcy pointed out, it was sort of a midlife assessment...note the year: 2000 right when i got online for the first times
~musing~ alot has changed since then...

Connell!  What a treat!  I was just listening to a CD today by the Connells....cool huh?
Thankx for your offering of peace, amigo!

and Nance, i am so glad you saw this.  One of my earliest poems but a personal favorite for personal reasons.  Baring a bit of my soul in it which i don't always share about myself, but
40 was tough.....45 even tougher!  age wise, ya know?  hehehe  life is good, tho....
Still toying with the idea of making this a song lyric but not sure...mmmm
Thankx Nance, and have a great evening!
